What are names you'll never use, either because you done having babies, or you're not sure your brave enough..

Im pregnant with baby number 3 a little girl and we have her name, I'm having no more so I know I'll never use these names, and it makes me sad 😄

Girls:

Edie
Hattie

(This is a mix of ones that got vetoed by dh, ones that we were thinking of for the child of the other sex when expecting each of our three, ones I would love to use for a fourth that won't be happening, and the odd 'not brave enough' one).

Orlando
Reuben

Florian
Benedict
Sebastian
William
Matthias
Clement

Miranda
Melody
Lucia
Emily
Elena

I adore Posy for a girl after Posy Fossil in one of my favourite childhood books Ballet Shoes. It's just too cutesy though and unless a girl is a fine boned tiny slip of a thing Posy doesn't work.

Charter for a boy is a family name I loved in our family tree and would have continued but my brother said "ha, sounds like sharter" so that ruined that

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 13/06/2022 20:21

Vida was going to be a middle name for DC1 if he’d been a girl. In memory of a David. She might have been Isla Vida.

Casper
Llewellyn (Lewi for short then everyone assumes that’s his name, but hey presto there’s an extra long name up his sleeve. Or not).
Jemima
Merryn (which to be fair I’d forgotten about until a thread on this today, but it was on my girl wish-list. I only have boys).
Marianne (but hate Maz)
Genevieve
Lorenzo, Enzo for short (yes we have some Italian heritage)
Raphael
Raffaella
Gabriel (hate Gabe)

You know I can see why mother in laws try and influence grandchild name decisions…

I love names related to Angels, such as Raphael Gabriel and Seraphina. My favourite film had a character called Siddalee, which I always loved.

I always loved Roman & Isaac

flippetygibbety · 13/06/2022 20:54

Another one for Persephone and, weirdly, Stephanie - I just think it has such a lovely sound, and for boys Raphael (Rafe) and Nathaniel (Nate)

Dancingonmyownagain · 13/06/2022 21:01

So glad to see Persephone mentioned here so frequently - my baby girl is Persephone and I've been having major name doubts, mainly due to the number of people who seem unable to pronounce it correctly 😬

I loved Jasper (veto by DH) but won't be having more babies so it will remain unused!

TheZenOne22 · 13/06/2022 22:30

Percy

Quentin

Birdie

Piper*

Apart from Percy perhaps, these are all great names and not unusual at all. I particularly like Quentin and Birdie.

MrsSamRowley · 14/06/2022 10:16

Bertie & Monty were our 2 boys names but our 2nd child (21 weeks pregnant at the mo) is also a girl and she will be our last.

Girls names I don't think we're quite brave enough for/my husband doesn't like!:

Persephone
Ianthe
Pandora
Seraphina
Cassandra
Isadora

Iliada · 15/06/2022 11:28

Ebenezer.

I really love it but I would worry that it might be a bit cruel to name a kid this. Especially at Christmas time.

Brightonbelle87 · 15/06/2022 13:52

Love looking through these names, so much variety! I'm due end December for baby no. 1 but it's too early to know the sex. Think we have boy name sorted but for a girl I'm stumped. There's lots on here I like though. Would love something strong sounding rather than 'illie' or 'ollie' at the end. But then it'll be up to her if she wants that as a nickname I guess.

How do people make the final decision?!

RinklyRomaine · 15/06/2022 13:57

No more children but

Cecelia
Vivienne or Vivianna
Sadie
Pandora

Theodore
Ben
Bailey
Magnus

Some may be / will be moggy names!

MrsMitford3 · 15/06/2022 14:04

Just came on too see how many times my DD name appeared twice

I always loved Angharad. I am not Welsh-nor is DH.
Just something about it!

Normando91 · 15/06/2022 14:04

I love the name Stanley. But we live in a place called Stanley. And I wouldn’t want him to be Stanley from Stanley 🤣

Crunchymum · 15/06/2022 14:09

As I am having no more children here are some of the names I love but will never use:

Jean
Olive
Pearl
Rose
Elliot
Louis

My more "out there" names are:
Indiana (girl)
Albertine (girl)
Ignacio
