Two middle names (one Irish)

Early days, but thinking about girls' names.

One of my favourite names is Beatrice. We would like two middle names, as our older child has two as well. We'd like one of the middle names to be an Irish name. The other one will probably be Catharine or Maria.

What combination would you choose? Thank you!

Seeing as it’s going to be a middle name you don’t need to worry about whether the spelling will be tricky or not

Beatrice Catharine Laoise (leesha)
Beatrice Maria Sadhbh (sive)
Beatrice RĂłise Maria (roe-shuh)
Beatrice Sorcha Maria (surrika)
Beatrice Catharine SiĂșn (shoon)

Apols if you're Irish yourself and already know the pronunciations.

Yes I was thinking the same as PP - you can go full Caoilfhionn for a middle name!

BlaithĂn and Blathnaid are nice.

SycamoreTall · 27/05/2022 11:20

Going full Caoilfhionn sounds fun! (As a concept - not sure I like the name actually.)

Lovely suggestions. I like the really mythological ones. Now musing over whether Maria would be good as a first name too...

Actually, I think Maria could be a lovely first name, and it's not usually my style at all.

SycamoreTall · 27/05/2022 17:04

Definitely! I find some short girls' names ending in -a a bit... insubstantial? But I think Maria doesn't fall into that trap somehow.

Beatrice Oona Maria ?

I don’t really like Maria, makes me think of elderly barmaids, but Beatrice is overused - Catherine is beautiful though, underused right now, and lots of nice short forms

SycamoreTall · 28/05/2022 17:42

Thank you - Catharine is a close family name, so we wouldn't use it as a first name.

I didn't realize Beatrice could be considered overused, I've never met any under 25.

I love Beatrice and don’t think it’s overused at all.

Beatrice is lovely, and outside the Top 100 names from last year, so it falls into the category of pretty rare but not unheard of.

SycamoreTall · 28/05/2022 20:34

I love Roisin, Ailbhe and Sibéal.

I've never heard of Deictire, where does it come from?

Deictire is a significant woman of Irish myth, the mother of CĂș Chulainn.
