Which names do you love that generally get a bad reception on MN?

I love surname type names for boys so Lawson, Weston, Darwin etc.

I also think that Kyle and Kai are nice names.

There are others but I'll have to think of them.

Which disliked names do you love?

Amanda. I've seen it described as old fashioned in a bad way, a bully's name and A man duh.
I think it's very warm and elegant though. If you can get past Mandy!

I love Billy but according to MN it’s chavvy

I like Amanda. Maybe it's Amanda from Motherland that makes people think 'bully'. I love her but she's an undeniable bitch. Mandy is awful as is Mand.

Names that - gasp, shock, horror - English people may struggle to pronounce on first go. Especially Irish and Welsh names.

Why is Kit so loved on here but not Kai? (I think I put them in the same ‘category’ because of the Rooneys lol)

I’ve seen plenty of names described as ‘awful’ on here that I actually like. I also don’t get the obsession with no ‘nicknames’ and there are plenty of ‘cutesy’ names that I love.

My daughter is Skye. Apparently it's "chavvy". We're Scottish in Scotland. My daughter is named after one of the most beautiful islands in the country.

I like quite a few names that were more popular in the 60s/70s/80s. Sarah, Melissa, Susan, Helen, John, David, Mark, Richard.

I’ve not seen criticism of Irish, Welsh or “foreign” names on here. I’ve seen comments about names being “chavvy” or “try hard and pretentious” but if you like a name I wouldn’t be that bothered about a few individuals with strong opinions.

Any name that might possibly need spelled out on occasion. I have an absolutely normal name but still need to spell it for people, it's really not difficult but MN does not like it. That means anything vaguely Gaelic 🙄

Yep, even the most common names need spelling out now because of the preference to give a child a name that's "normal" but also "unique" by virtue of its spelling.

I love classic names like Rachel and Sarah which lots of people think are boring. When I suggested Sarah on a thread a while ago, someone said it was no better than naming a girl "Girl" 😂

I have a soft spot for names I think sound like 'cowboy' names for boys. Like Dustin and Casey 👀😳

Also surnames as first names (often called "chavvy" and American on here). But where I live in Scotland, surnames as first names is tradition! So they seem like solid names to me.

Barbara, several of my mums friends had the name and I've very fond memories of them.
