What are your thoughts on this name? I heard it in conversation recently an older distant relative has the name (her name is Helena but from childhood she's been known as Lena)
What are your thoughts as a stand alone name?
I was considering either Lena Grace or Grace Elizabeth what do you prefer? Thanks xx

Lena is absolutely a stand alone name Confused. And it's pronounced Lee-na.
I've never heard of Lina.

pinklavenders · 15/05/2022 15:08

Lena can be short for Selena

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 15/05/2022 15:27

I like it. My grandma had a best friend called Lera pronounced
le (rhymes with there)
ra (rhymes with car

midsomermurderess · 15/05/2022 15:27

I think of Lena Headey who played Cersei Lannister. I don't know about the pronunciation though.

Rubytinsleslippers · 15/05/2022 15:30

I know one Lena - short for Magdalena.

thinkfast · 15/05/2022 15:45

A friend has a German cousin called Lena, pronounced Lahna.

The most infamous Lena was Lena (aka Leni) Riefenstahl who filmed 'Nuremberg' for Hitler.

FinnRussell · 15/05/2022 15:47

lolaflores · 15/05/2022 16:00

Andromachehadabadday · 15/05/2022 16:03

Somuddled · 15/05/2022 16:05

I know a few Arab Lena/Lina children. Pronounced Leena. I think it is wonderful.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 15/05/2022 16:33

I have one in my class (Polish), pronounced with a short 'e' as in 'egg'. There's another Polish child in the school, also pronounced the same. I think if I saw it, my first instinct would be to pronounce it like that, second I would pronounce it with an 'ay' sound (as in short for Madgalena). I probably wouldn't think long 'ee' sound unless it was spelt 'Leena'. I'm guessing if the one you know is short for Helena it's either pronounce short 'e' or long 'ay'.

whywhywhy5 · 15/05/2022 17:01

I love it. I think it's really classy

blameitonthecaffeine · 15/05/2022 23:32

I used to teach a Lena. She pronounced it Leena and her real name was Eleanor but she was never called that, always Lena. I think it's pretty.

peaceinourtime · 17/05/2022 00:04

Great name, I knew one from school who would probably in her late twenties now.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 17/05/2022 00:09

I really like it, although I never know if ots Lay-na or Lee-na. I like both pronunciations though.

OstrichFeathers · 17/05/2022 00:16

I know 3 Lenas, all pronounced Lee-nah. It's absolutely a stand alone name, and gorgeous.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/05/2022 00:04

I know it as a nn for Selena and Elena, both pronounce it Lee-nah

I think it's a bit nothingy personally, but what would put me off is all the Leah/Lola/Lara/Leila/Lyra/Lila/Lena/Luna names about.. they just all blur into one
