Robyn/Robin for a girl

Finding it hard to pick girls names and trying not to discuss with people irl incase they dislike the few names I do like.

considering Robyn/Robin for a girl. Not sure if I like the Y spelling but I’m not sure if I can use the I spelling for a girl?

also what are your associations with this name? I don’t know anyone with it so nothing to pull from and can’t think of many celebs/characters either.

thanks!

There's Rowen and Rowan...

I like Robyn for a girl.
Lovely name. The kind of name that never becomes uber popular but everyone recognises it all the same.

My son was going to be a Robin no matter if he was a girl or boy. I love nature so it had to be a bird name. There was a Robyn in the year below. I now have a Wren too lol

Love love Robyn, spelt like that.

I love Robin which I associate with Robin Wright Penn, whom I think of as gorgeous and elegant.

I love Robin for a girl, but only with the straight Robin spelling.

As far as I understand it, Robyn was a weird mid century invention (like Jayne). The two elderly UK Robins I know are both spelt like that, and it’s almost always Robin in the US eg Robin Wright.

Anyway it’s great - the only downer I can think of is similar R names (Rowan, Roman, Rory) are very popular right now, and Robin is getting pretty popular, so it isn’t going to massively stand out. You could solve that by calling her Roberta on the birth certificate, so she can switch to Bobbie if she wants someone more unusual.

The singer Rihanna's real name is Robyn 👌🏼

Love Robin for boy or girl. I know a male Robin and a female Robyn, but I think Robin works for both sexes. A potential benefit of the Robyn spelling is that it's obviously female - I had a female friend called Lindsey (more commonly used as the male spelling) and at school she was often seated with boys at the beginning of the year as teachers had made up the seating plans before meeting the class and realising she was a girl.

I strongly dislike Robyn. Robin is much better, though even better if short for Roberta.

I know a gorgeous little girl called Bobbie. Robyn is her official birth certificate name. I prefer Robyn with a y, to an i.
