Greta and Freda/Frieda?

Trying to choose a name for dd2. Dd1 is Greta and now I really like Freda/Frieda. Does that work as a sibling name or are they too similar? (Ps I know both names are a bit marmite…)

I love them both and think they go lovely together

ButterRose · 09/05/2022 07:21

I like the Frieda spelling more then Freda but love the name

Imogensmumma · 09/05/2022 07:23

Love Greta I think Frieda (better spelling IMO) and Greta is too matchy matchy but love both the names

Bimblybomeyelash · 09/05/2022 07:23

Greta is lovely. Maybe a bit matchy with Freida?

how about:

Agnes
Margot
Ursula
Vera

LetItGoHome · 09/05/2022 07:53

Like both names a lot but I think they are too matching for sisters.
How about Doris. Love this too ❤️

Too matchy…

What about

Ingrid
Astrid
Frances
Florence
Dorothy
Edie

Both lovely names but together they seem a bit of a theme unless you have the heritage to go with them.
Clara
Marta/Martha

Edith

We also have a Greta OP. Not planning any more DC but I’ve also started really liking Frida (prefer this spelling) so we must have fairly similar tastes! Think they’re too themey for siblings though, especially if there’s no German or Scandi heritage.

elfran · 09/05/2022 09:43

Both these names were on my list for DD (as were Agnes, Ingrid and Ursula which pp have mentioned!) so we have similar taste OP. Ursula is currently top for my imaginary second daughter.

I do think they are a bit close, unfortunately. It might be more of a problem for me with my North American accent than the average British person, as t's in the middle of words tend to become a bit dulled anyway, making them seem even closer.

I have found that having named one child, I see that the sounds I like in names are all v similar, so I've had to strike a huge portion of my list for a second, because they would be a bit matchy. It's frustrating!

My Grandmother was Freda (Alfreda) and I love it! Greta is pretty and they go well together.

ODFOx · 09/05/2022 09:59

Depends on how you pronounce Greta I think.
If you pronounce it like Greta Thunberg then Greta and Freda work well.
If you pronounce it like Greta Bridge with a long e then they are too matchy.

ODFOx · 09/05/2022 10:02

If you do pronounce Greta with a long E maybe consider:
Astrid
Petra
Ella
Carla
Simone

Roomeithaview · 09/05/2022 12:47

We pronounce Greta with a short e…

I like the Frida spelling.

Twinsmummy1812 · 09/05/2022 18:10

How about Dora? I absolutely LOVE this name (full disclosure it is my cat’s name and named after my great aunt), seriously it would be my go to name if I had another daughter (too old now though😟)

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2022 23:23

Bit Bill and Ben but ok.

i think you are better with Frieda spelling, to stop people who don’t know the name saying Fredda.

Thora, Stella, Oona, Honor, Astra, Elva, Ida, Adela, Lois, Ines - or Dorothea nn Dorey - might be alternatives
