Thoughts on this Italian boys name? We have an Italian surname.

Just to add to my post -Was thinking of Jules as a possible nickname ….

I'd spell it Juliano in that case. Easier if initials are the same.

Lovely

TheSandgroper · 07/05/2022 12:31

I’m Australian. Plenty of Guiliano’s about but more likely older generations. NN usually Gino.

KirstenBlest · 07/05/2022 13:07

I don't like Jules. The spelling will probably cause issues in the UK. He'll get Juliano, Guiliano, Giliano, Guliano etc

Gino is nice

ButterRose · 07/05/2022 13:54

I'd prefer the spelling Juliano if your going to nn Jules

queenofmay · 09/05/2022 14:21

I think it's nice but I can imagine it getting a lot of misspellings in the UK. Depends on how much that would bother you.

Chaoslatte · 09/05/2022 14:25

I disagree about spelling it with a J - I think that would look weird with an Italian surname since there is no J in Italian. However it is quite long so I think I would prefer Giulio.

ClaudiaWankleman · 09/05/2022 14:31

I like it.

I think the biggest annoyance will be people pronouncing the 'i' as a separate syllable. If that won't bother you then go for it.

TrashyPanda · 09/05/2022 14:33

It’s a great name.
and Gino is a great shortening.
not Jules.

Fitterbyfifty · 09/05/2022 14:33

Definitely don't spell it with a J! I prefer Giulio. Giuliano is already a diminutive.

WhoppingBigBackside · 09/05/2022 14:48

I'd think that Juliano was spanish and would pronounce accordinglu.

Giulio is better than Guiliano

pinklavenders · 09/05/2022 16:38

If spelling it with a G, I'd shorten to Giulio or Gino, if at all.

Jules is normally short for Julian. And I'd avoid different initials

I went to school with a Giuliano. It was a bit of a joke in our class that no teacher, upon reading his name aloud for the first time, could pronounce it correctly. Goo-liano was the most common mistake. He went by the nickname Jules, which (although I don’t like it) is a perfectly reasonable diminutive of the full name. I think the name Giuliano is rather beautiful - too good to waste by calling him Jules instead!
