Luca’s brother or sister

Hi there,

I’m looking for opinions on my chosen names or alternative suggestions.

We have a little boy called Luca and an Italian surname. I’m thinking Nico if we have another boy or Mia, if we have a girl. Do you think these names are nice and do they go well with Luca? Or could you suggest any other Italian names that might be better?

TIA!

Lovely names!

Alba? Alice?

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/05/2022 00:23

Nico is nice

But Mia is way overused and has pronunciation issues. Cara, Clara, Anna, Stella, Lara, Allegra, Francesca, Caterina, Cassia, Flora might all work - a Google will throw up lots more

I know a Luca with brother Ezra. Another Luca with brother Zack.

Not personally keen on Nico (bit of an old man name to me) or Mia (more than overused!). I like Elena, Luisa, Francesca, Maria.

Love Nico. So cool.

Mia seems a bit dull these days. There are so many of them. What about:

Elisa
Marta
Giada
Alessia

I like Nico but Mia is a bit overused. How about Marina, Antonella (my favourite) or Bianca for a girl?

Keepitonthedownlow · 02/05/2022 01:26

Mia is nice and I personally don't know any.

I also really like Rocco for a boy.

Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas. I keep reading on MN that Mia is overused but I personally don’t know any. I work in a school and there are no Mias….not to say there wouldn’t be another 5 in the class by the time she went to school!

I think I’m preferring 2 syllable names as our surname is rather long winded and hard for some to pronounce (3 syllables).

Of the names suggested….they are all nice but Nico is still beating them all as my boys name. For a girl the ones I like the most are:

Nina
Clara
Cara
Bella

I love Luisa and really like Elena but my husband has vetoed both. He says they are too old fashioned and he prefers more modern names. Another of my favourites was Rosa but he thinks that’s “an old lady name”.

Any other suggestions or opinions welcome! It’s so tough choosing names!

Nico is nice.
What about Chiara for a girl?

DoctorZog · 02/05/2022 20:44

Love Nina. Mia is also pretty- i think it was popular 10 years ago, but not so much now. How about Serena?

Mia was the 5th most popular name for girls in England and Wales in 2020 and has been very popular for the past 20 years.

There are very similar names that are popular like Maia, Maya, Mila, May, Mae and so on

Mia is italian for 'my', so could seem silly with some surnames, e.g. Mia Ferrari would be My Ferrari

RosaBaby2 · 04/05/2022 11:10

Leo. We have Luca and Leo 😀

TheVanguardSix · 04/05/2022 11:11

Gioia or Giulia, Claudia or Marisa for a girl
Matteo or Mattia for a boy

massistar · 04/05/2022 15:04

We have a Luca. His sister is Lara. Grin

I seriously considered Gaia which I still absolutely love. Boys names we considered were Alessandro and Marco.

massistar · 04/05/2022 15:06

I don't think I'd go Cara, Mia or Bella as all have meanings as actual words in Italian rather than used as names.

JimLaheysWhiskeyBottle · 04/05/2022 15:08

I have a Luca and his younger sister is Tora. :)

Salutatorydrinks · 04/05/2022 15:08

Sienna, Amy, Bella, Damaris, Anna, Amelie, Ellery, Piper, Valentina

I agree.
If you have an Italian surname and Italian heritage, then Mia sounds totally wrong. As does Nico really, though presumably it would be Nicola on his birth cert?
Luca was the most popular boy's name after Francesco in Italy for a while, it's now Leonardo so maybe that would match.
