Looking for inspiration for girls names that are more unusual without being totally out there that will go with our surname of James. So far we have

Xanthe James
Elowen James

we are stuck. we quite like the idea of nature type names

I like Elowen. Similarly, Olwen James would work well.

I connected with family recently who’s surname is James. One daughter was called Indigo and they have a son called Tiger, I think they’re great names and go with James.

Three-syllable first names go well with a one-syllable surname, you get a nice rhythm when you say the name aloud , eg --
Jessica James (maybe not that actual name, unless you're happy with it being shortened to Jessie James...😄 )
Olivia James
Eleanor James
Amelia
Alicia (Aleesha)
Rosalind
Penelope
Josephine
Amara

Lowenna is much nicer than Elowen (LON) Xanthe is lovely. How about Cassia?

FayCarew · 28/04/2022 09:20

@halfsiesonapotnoodle , Elowen is El-OW-en not EL-ow-en. I agree that Lowenna is nicer and the pronunciation issue doesn't arise.

SupetArt · 28/04/2022 12:45

Indigo James is fab

I had Lowenna on my list but got very negative comments on here before about it

Xanthe

SupetArt · 28/04/2022 12:49

Yes I was pronouncing it El-OW-en but I know in the US particularly it’s pronounced the other way which I think is actually nicer but not correct

SupetArt · 28/04/2022 12:51

We discounted Ianthe as people here pronounce I-anthe which is wrong and I don’t like EE-an-thay which is more how it should be pronounced

It's a beautiful name. If you love it, stuff what people on Mumsnet think!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 28/04/2022 20:16

I think Lowenna is lovely. The Cornish have some good names. I met a Demelza today for the first time ever.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/04/2022 20:18

Jennifer. Unusual now, and alliterative names sound great

Deezy143 · 28/04/2022 20:23

Well it not a nature name but it is unique.

Trelena

FayCarew · 28/04/2022 20:31

Demelza was named after a place. The name was used for the book.

You could use the name of another hamlet. Chipshop in Devon perhaps

CP2701 · 29/04/2022 23:58

What about Seren? It means star in Welsh. ⭐
