We can't seem to decide between these girls names:

Briar
Rhiannon
Lydia
Hope

Love all 4 of them, but need some help deciding. Thanks!

I like Lydia best

DramaAlpaca · 15/04/2022 13:20

Lydia for me, too.

Rhiannon is beautiful, but only if you are Welsh and can pronounce it properly.

Hope is nice but can sound unpleasant depending on accent. 'Ope isn't pretty. It would be a lovely middle name.

Briar, just no. It's sharp and ugly. I don't like it at all. It's especially bad with the middle name Rose.

Sexnotgender · 15/04/2022 13:22

Lydia or Hope. Really dislike the other 2.

Happenchance · 15/04/2022 13:29

I like Briar best. It's a strong name and sounds fiery (probably because it rhymes with fire Grin)

Rhiannon is OK.

I can't help but think of Lydia Chlamydia when I see Lydia (thanks Mumsnet). I like the similar Linnea though, which has en earthy feel to it like Briar.

I'm not a fan of Hope and it's a big name to live up to. She could view it as toxic positivity if she's naturally a negative, or even realistic, person.

KirstenBlest · 15/04/2022 14:26

Briar - too naturey for me but quite nice
Rhiannon - ruined by people saying Ree Annun.
Lydia - will be Lyds
Hope - hopeless

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/04/2022 14:27

I LOVE Briar
It's unusual but easy to pronounce

BethsMoon · 15/04/2022 14:46

Thanks for the opinions, they seem very mixed and based on personal opinion, which is obviously expected.
We've also just come across the name Nesrin, which I think is beautiful. It means Wild Rose.
What does everyone think about it?

Nesrin is really pretty and I love the meaning

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/04/2022 16:13

They are all nice (helpful), can you narrow it down on what sounds good with your surname.

Hope and Lydia are both getting quite popular, whereas the other two are unusual if that helps at all.

It’s OK. Briar is nicer.
scrivette · 15/04/2022 16:14

Briar is my favourite, I like the meaning of Wild Rose but not sure about the name.

heartofgrass · 15/04/2022 16:46

I LOVE Briar
It's unusual but easy to pronounce

See I came on to say, Briar is nice but how is it pronounced?

Bry-uh
Bree-uh

?? Grin

Mumofgirls2017 · 15/04/2022 16:49

Lydia

Floralnomad · 15/04/2022 16:51

Lydia or Briar .

Imo, the meaning is what makes it pretty. The actual sound is not so appealing.
irishfarmer · 15/04/2022 17:02

Briar - I think of Briar bush straight away could be a local thing but I'd say 'don't go near Mary she's like a briar today' meaning she is mean/ spikey.

Rhiannon - Nice but I probably say in incorrectly as per pp above

Lydia - It fine, nothing wrong with it there is just something I don't really like about how it feels but I can't put my finger on why I don't like it.

Hope - I like it. My favourite out of your choices

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 15/04/2022 17:04

Briar is to Disney for me
I like Lydia best

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/04/2022 17:12

Briar or Lydia

I find Rhiannon a bit dated as I know several in their 30s.

Hope always seems to be given to premature or poorly babies so I associate it with that

MinoucheSapphic · 15/04/2022 17:18

I like Lydia and Rhiannon the most.
Nesrin is lovely if pronounced ness-reen (as in Arabic) forvo.com/word/%D9%86%D8%B3%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%86/#ar
I wouldn't like an Anglicised pronunciation though. I have a feeling that people in the UK would read it as nez-rin which isn't nearly as nice.

Hadtocomment · 15/04/2022 17:18

I like Rhiannon. It's unusual where I am at least and is a nice and interesting name. Briar is quite nice. I like the thorny thing - too many girls names are all about the pretty and the flowery. A bit of thorniness seems a bit characterful to me. As well as Briar isn't there names like Briagh if you wanted similar ideas? Just a thought. Hope is quite nice but seems quite serious to me in some way. I'm not sure about Lydia.

DoggoInMyTesla · 15/04/2022 17:21

Lydia is really nice. I don’t really like the others.

Hadtocomment · 15/04/2022 17:21

I like Nasrin better than Nesrin - which I read is alternative version

Alfixnm · 15/04/2022 17:24

I am also Irish and thought straight away of the phrase "like a briar" meaning somebody in a permanent bad mood!!

RuthW · 15/04/2022 17:54

Rhiannon is best from your list.

LadyLolaRuben · 15/04/2022 18:05
