Which 'pet names' do you use for your children?

Which 'pet names' do you use for your children, if any?

We call our oldest daughter 'poppet'. My mum always called me 'sausage'. I don't have one for my youngest daughter yet - nothing has really materialised, and her name doesn't really have any nice shortening, so looking for ideas!

Sunshine gets used for DS, he's always so smiley and sunny natured.
Pudding for DD because she's sweet and was a v plump baby. Also Bubba because she's the baby of the family and, again, was a fairly hench baby.
Plus a whole bunch of ridiculous ones associated with their names and behaviours.

Does her name not lend itself to anything at all? Doesn't necessarily need to go shorter. Could be associations or even a lengthening...

Thinking of friends and family nns...
Petal, blossom, chick, chicken, peanut, bean, adding -ster to the end of their name or replacing letters with a z (eg - Tedster or Gaz, though these seem to be more boyish ones), pickle, Princess, angel, flower

ladydimitrescu · 12/04/2022 11:02

My two are pickle and pudding 🥰

Her name is Phoebe. I hate 'feebs'. We keep calling her 'feebles', which is obviously awful, and so that's what I'm trying to get away from...

What about Bee? Or a variation of that - Bumble bee, Bb, Fee...I mean, I'd probably end up with Fifi, but that might be a bit bichon frise niche

Jojobees · 12/04/2022 12:54

My oldest is bear and my youngest is beebop.

Daffodilsdance · 12/04/2022 12:55

Our daughter is affectionately called plum. No one can remember why

yellowwellingtons · 12/04/2022 13:10

Bubs, puds or moo

DurdleSnore · 12/04/2022 13:39

I have a Phoebe and tend to call her Bee or Bebe but anything that takes my fancy at the time like pickle, sweetie etc. I must admit that Pheebs slips out of my mouth occasionally too but it doesn’t really bother me. There are far worse shortenings of names out there!

TheRealMummyPig · 12/04/2022 13:45

So many funny names for my two!
Sausage, boo boo, tuddles (after my son's pronunciation of cuddle), loopy loo, darling, poppet...the list goes on!

These are gorgeous suggestions

We use sausage and poppet a lot. I like pickle but my four yr old is getting furious when I call her that! My parents both used lambkin but I haven’t used that one myself.

bettertocryinamercedes · 12/04/2022 14:01

Dd is pineapple. She once wore her hair up in a messy bun and dh called her "pineapple head"

It's stuck and now he never uses her name nor does her brother!

My children get Bunny, Bean, Puffin, and then rhyming versions of their name, like Namey Flamey.

KirstenBlest · 12/04/2022 20:14

Would Pebble suit her?

Seashor · 12/04/2022 20:52

Roobert Roo to rhyme with Scooby Doo.

BrutusMcDogface · 12/04/2022 20:59

I don’t think you can ask other people for pet names for your child? They just evolve. We have ‘name-bobs’, ‘name-moo’, ‘nameles’ (not nameless; for example George would be georgles. Not the real name but you get the idea!)

That said, I think Bee or Fifi would be great for a phoebe.

Baby dyl for Dylan even though he's six foot has a six pack and is 16. He's down as baby dyl in my phone as well. When he was little my mother in law called him dildo and didn't have w clue what she was saying. Smile
