No. It's a city. Sounds like you're trying for a Brooklyn Beckham type name.

LynetteScavo · 11/04/2022 17:00

If I heard it I would think Roam.

crumpet · 11/04/2022 17:01

Roman is better

UhtredsLatestPaganHussy · 11/04/2022 17:02

I'd prob assume it was a shortening of Jerome or Roman.

Peaseblossum22 · 11/04/2022 17:02

I’m sorry but I think that’s ridiculous . What about Roman or Rowan

SirChenjins · 11/04/2022 17:04

Don’t be so silly Grin

MinoucheSapphic · 11/04/2022 17:08

I think it would be fine as a nickname for Jerome or Roman. I don't love it as a legal name though. I think it's the kind of name that might sound "sophisticated" outside of Italy but actual Italians would find it strange or humorous. Like how English people might see "London" as a name.

SunshiningBoo · 11/04/2022 17:13

I think Rome is ok, but I prefer Roman or even Romeo.

AdaColeman · 11/04/2022 17:15

I don't think it would work very well, especially as Italians call the city Roma.
I like Roman though, would you consider using that?

AHungryCaterpillar · 11/04/2022 17:16

It’s quite nice. I like roman but wouldn’t use it as it is extremely popular atm

TidyDancer · 11/04/2022 17:21

Roman is definitely better. Or Rowan which is lovely. Rome doesn't really feel like a name.

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2022 17:48

Awful.

BiggerBoat1 · 11/04/2022 17:50

No.

Kanaloa · 11/04/2022 17:51

Roman is nice and you could call him ‘Rome’ for short. I wouldn’t choose Rome as a first name because I’ve been there and it’s actually not all that nice. It’s just a city like any other, there’s nothing particularly romantic about it. A bit like naming your child Manchester or London or Mexico City.

RedRobin100 · 11/04/2022 17:53

No. It just doesn’t sound like a name. It comes up short.
Roman is ok however

winewolfhowls · 11/04/2022 17:54

Sorry but I've known two different dogs locally called Rome.

Hellocatshome · 11/04/2022 17:54

I like the name Roman, I could get away with Romeo just but Rome doesn't sound like a name.

UhtredsLatestPaganHussy · 11/04/2022 17:56

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

It's one of the best cities.

Outrageous.

(entitled to your opinion etc. etc.)

DrDetriment · 11/04/2022 17:56

Roman is much nicer. Rome, I would think, has siblings called Venice and Milan.

Kanaloa · 11/04/2022 18:01

@UhtredsLatestPaganHussy

I guess so. Certainly a lot to see and do there. But in many respects re aggressive begging, public facilities etc it’s not all wonder and beauty. I think people are often desperate to say how wonderful it is because of the culture and history which is certainly wonderful. But do I think (as an actual place) it’s beautiful enough to aspire to name my child after it? No, not really. Maybe Bruges or something. Baby Bruges.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/04/2022 00:59

It’s not a name for a person

It’s weird

It will get confused with the (ugly) girl’s name Roma

Romulus is a better option, and it’s not often you’d say that

It's a city not a name
Padderbadger · 15/04/2022 01:55

I like it!

MissDollyMix · 15/04/2022 01:57

Yes. And with a sibling called Cairo…. (I keep hearing that name a lot at the moment? It’s not my cup of tea. The name Romeo was quite popular for a while. Poor kid will be constantly correcting people that he’s not called Romeo.
