Thoughts on double barrelled name Darcey/Darcie-Anna?

Surname is Irish and starts with McA Smile

I think if you have a surname starting "McA" then Darcy-Anna MCA... is quite a clunky flow.
I think Darcy-Anne would work better.

I'm not keen on it, personally, but I don't really care for hyphenated names (except for a handful of traditional ones like Anne-Marie). I guess it just seems a bit random to me to me - why not just use Darcie with Anna as a middle name? Or vice versa? Or something like Adriana or Juliana if you want to keep the An(n)a name ending? I just feel that hyphenated names rarely improve on the original name.

I like Anna, dislike Darcey and hate hyphens

Agree.

Also, at risk of being an arse but I see it so much on here, first names joined together are hyphenated. Double barrelled refers to surnames.

whatausername · 10/04/2022 12:50

Pick which one you like best because by the time she is out of primary school she'll be going by Darcy, rather than Darcy-Anna. Honesty, I think hyphenated names look indecisive!

KirstenBlest · 10/04/2022 12:51

Anna McArdle [substitute actual surnamesounds better than Darcey McArdle

Darcey-Anna will end up being Darcey, and Darcey Anna doesn't flow

GoodSoup · 10/04/2022 13:14

Really don’t like Darcy but I like Anna. Darcy-Anna is too much of a mouthful. Not a fan of the current trend for hyphenated names to be honest, especially when you’re expected to use the whole thing.

A mouthful, like Anna but Darcy reminds me of arsey!

timoteigirl · 10/04/2022 19:04

I personally don't like hyphenated names, they make me think the parents were greedy / indecisive. Also difficult in practice as end up using nicknames or first part of the name only.

DogsAndGin · 10/04/2022 21:21

I think double barrelled names sound cheap

Firebird83 · 12/04/2022 18:29

Anna is lovely but I don’t like Darcy at all. Or hyphenated names.

KylieCharlene · 12/04/2022 18:33

Love Anna. Darcy is ok.
I think I'd call DD Anna and use Darcy as a middle (minus the hyphen) so Anna Darcy McArdle.

LoveSpringDaffs · 12/04/2022 18:35

I like Darcy, I don't mind Anna, but darcy-Anna is just a mouthful. One messy name. It's kind of like you haven't even said it out loud yourself!

You need something like

Darcy-Jane if you really want to hyphenate it
Or if you really want to use Anna, make it a second name.

Both names are beautiful but the hyphenation makes it sound a bit twee I think. Lovely for a little girl but not quite serious for an adult. Darcie Anna (without the hyphen) would be a great choice imo!

Blimecory · 13/04/2022 19:52

Darcey is awful, Anna is lovely. Two names at the opposite sides of the spectrum. Definitely don’t hyphenate it.

sorryforswearing · 13/04/2022 19:55

I hate hyphenated names. Just personal taste I suppose. I like Anna. Not so much Darcie.

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/04/2022 23:56

Dear God no - Darcy is going to be the Tracy of the 20s, and hyphens are horrible

Anna is nice though, or Annabel / Annabeth if you want something fancier

Dorey (short for Dorothea) is also nice.
