I know a few older generation men with the name Roger. They are all really nice people. Personally, I hate the name. It’s old-fashioned in a bad way. I don’t like the way it sounds at all. I can’t imagine a baby/toddler/teen/young man with the name.

scottishnames · 01/04/2022 18:29

Roger perhaps still not usable - though my junior school playmate had that name and he was - and is - a great chap. And of course there's Roger Moore and Roger Federer. They've both got on pretty well, in spite of the name.

Had you thought about the original Norse-Norman version of the name, which is 'Hrothgar', pronounced 'Roth-gar'?

Innocenta · 01/04/2022 18:30

Roger Taylor from Queen.

Time40 · 01/04/2022 18:40

Most of the famous people called Roger seem to be nice, as far as one can tell ... and all the Rogers I've met in real life have been lovely. I've got a theory that Rogers just tend to turn out all right.

SuperSocks · 01/04/2022 19:07

Does Rogering mean sex? I always thought it was penetration with some random object? I'm too scared to Google!

Olga03 · 01/04/2022 20:35

Beautiful name in my opinion.
And yes, due for a comeback :)

LocalHobo · 03/04/2022 01:27

I like the name and, just checked with two teens, who aren't aware of the 'rogering' connotation.

augustusglupe · 03/04/2022 01:32

Roger my Arse!!! Jim Royle.

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/04/2022 02:09

It’s just hilarious because of rogering, and todger, and also it just sounds funny. So no.

Viviennemary · 03/04/2022 02:11

Absolutely not. Its totally dire.

MrsEricBana · 03/04/2022 02:26

Oh I've never thought of Roger Federer as a Roger. Ruined him for me now.

PyjamasOClock · 03/04/2022 02:37

I have an uncle called Roger, he's of that generation though. It's better with the French pronunciation, though 100x more pretentious. No, I doubt it's due a renaissance!!

ButterRose · 03/04/2022 03:04

Mmm I prefer Reginald nn Reggie

WildCoasts · 03/04/2022 03:08

There was a boy in my class called Roger. No-one made fun of it and no-one knew about other 'roger' meanings. I could see it making a comeback among Outlander fans.

JoyinRepetition · 03/04/2022 03:28

I have a mate Roger and I married one too, both absolutely detest their name, just saying.

avamiah · 03/04/2022 03:56

As a previous poster said Roger is the name of one of the Greatest Tennis Players we have ever known( Roger Federer) but he has always been known by his surname ( Federer) but let’s just say his name never held him back as he is called Roger Federer.

So go with whatever name you like .
Xx

Geminimama88 · 03/04/2022 09:18

Please don't.

WeasilyPleased · 03/04/2022 23:18

It's one of those comedy names to me. Either an elderly gent who says spiffing a lot, a hapless henpecked husband or a randy milkman.
Sorry OP I just can't take it seriously and the one I knew was an ageing swinger type!

Buttercup54321 · 05/04/2022 00:07

No its awful. As bad as Trevor and Horace.

MrsSiba · 05/04/2022 00:41

In the ilk of Norman, Wesley,Winston, Wayne

Unusual these days but I am sure it would be fine

DogsAndGin · 06/04/2022 20:27

With Gary and Roy and Barry?
