Gone off my favourite name, now what?

I've been dead set on Louisa for months however this week I taught two Louisas (am a high school sub) and calling their names I realised it's too much of a mouthful for me. I want a shorter name but don't know where to start. I like Louise but it's off putting that every other girl I went to school with had it as a middle name. Is Rosa too OTT for an English girl? Any other suggestions?

How about Lois? Or Eloise?

KineticSand · 01/04/2022 10:19

Rosa is great.

yefferson · 01/04/2022 10:20

Maybe Carla or Maya to keep the -a sound?

Luckingfovely · 01/04/2022 10:24

Rosa is not OTT at all, it's lovely!

GlitteryGreen · 01/04/2022 10:39

I think Rosa is fine, and I also wouldn't rule out Louise. I agree that lots of people my age (33) had Louise as a name, but I don't think it's common amongst children now at all.

TempsPerdu · 01/04/2022 10:42

Rosa is beautiful - very elegant, and definitely not too ‘out there’ nowadays. It’s actually quite popular at the moment (there’s one in DD’s nursery - also British background).

saritapdot · 01/04/2022 10:42

How about Lisa? Leah? Lou? Lara?

Rosa is okay but not as nice as Louisa I think.

TempsPerdu · 01/04/2022 10:42

Or Elise as an alternative?

Hadtocomment · 01/04/2022 10:44

There seems to be lots of rose names presently. People having had Louise as a middle name why does this matter. It might be refreshing to have a Louise now. I don't like Lois myself. Jane was a popular second name back in the day but it's a nice name quite underused now. It can be nice to have a name that feels like yours. Louise might just do the trick.

LittleBird4 · 01/04/2022 10:49

Rosa is lovely.

Pamlar · 01/04/2022 10:53

MsSquiz · 01/04/2022 10:54

I know a 2 year old Rosa and she's lovely, and it's definitely less common than Rose at the moment.

Laura and Rosa are both lovely.
What about Lucy?

TallulahBetty · 01/04/2022 13:29

Lois

WoolyMammoth55 · 01/04/2022 13:30

My sister is a Louisa and it really suits her! Perfect name :)

Our other sister did Eloisa as a middle name for our niece. If I'd had a girl I would likely have done middle name Luisa - Spanish spelling to change it up a bit!

I also really like Rosa TBF but Louisa is lovely

Cindie943811A · 01/04/2022 16:19

Elsa?

CaffiSaliMali · 01/04/2022 16:30

I like both Louisa and Rosa. Rosa is on my list so I like it a lot.

I don't think Rosa is OTT in England - the only Rosa I know is English. My Mum used to work with her when I was a teenager and Rosa has been on my list since then.

Rosa is currently 161 on the England and Wales stats for 2020, Rose is 61 and Rosie is 9. So not as popular as Rose but not unheard of either.

delshell · 01/04/2022 21:02

What about Clara?

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/04/2022 22:03

Rosa is lovely and definitely fine in England

Or Luella is quicker to say.

Rosa is fine just many many Roses around.

Would suggest Eloisa as a name as I am biased there
