Thoughts on Rudy please...? Love the name but can't work out how many people will think it's odd!

Love Rudy. I know two baby Rudy's so I think it's getting more popular? Maybe since The Book Thief came out?

Nosetickle · 28/03/2022 16:06

I’m not sure I like it I’m afraid, it makes me think of rude. Is it a boy or a girls name? If girl I prefer Ruby. If boy I prefer Ruben.

Hereforthelaughs2020 · 28/03/2022 16:09

I love it!

RuthW · 28/03/2022 16:20

No. It's slang for rude, or 'a messsge to you'

Lilaclavenders · 28/03/2022 18:13

Awful!

It's literally Rude with a y.

Some people call farts Rudeys!

Lilaclavenders · 28/03/2022 18:15

Rudy" (or Rudi, Rude boy) is a Jamaican term for criminal juveniles

DramaAlpaca · 28/03/2022 18:34

Hate it.

DotDotDotDotDot · 28/03/2022 18:55

There’s something about the name Rudy that I really like, maybe it’s the book thief character association? I think it’s really cool but definitely will be a name people will either love or hate. I love that link aswell @KirstenBlest

Fivebeanchilli · 28/03/2022 19:45

I really like it.

Marty13 · 28/03/2022 21:35

Nothing wrong with it but it's a diminutive for me, not a name. I'd put Rudolf or Rüdiger on the birth certificate.

Hermioninny · 28/03/2022 21:57

I like it, I don’t have any negative associations with it and it’s a ‘normal’ name without being heard frequently. I would link it with Rudyard Kipling and the Jungle Book.

Confused

It’s an established nn for Rudolph, popular in Europe and the US.

I quite like it OP

Lilaclavenders · 29/03/2022 10:17

Yes in some countries Rudolph is an established name - my relative is called Rudolph nickname Rudi.

BUT in German the word means nothing, its simply a name.

In English unfortunately Rudi contains the word 'RUDE'. That's the problem.
