I would love your opinions on these two names.
George will be the middle name. What did you think ? x

Matthew for me. I think Myles is awful, particularly with a "y" rather than an "i".

Fivebeanchilli · 24/03/2022 15:24

I like Matt but not keen on Matthew. It always feels stodgy to me although I've met some lovely Matthews - it's just the sound of it.
I really like Miles. I know write a few in their 40s and 50s and every age down to 11 so I really don't agree that it will date badly. I only know one with the Myles spelling and I much prefer Miles.

cafedesreves · 24/03/2022 15:30

So many baby Mileses around atm!

SoyMarina · 24/03/2022 15:31

Both names are very common in Nursery and Reception classes at the moment.

DogsAndGin · 24/03/2022 15:57

For some reason I find Myles very rough. But I find Miles very posh! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Therightside · 24/03/2022 15:59

Thank you for all the comments so far. I thought Myles/ Miles was quite popular at the moment but I didn't think Matthew was. That was part of my attraction to the name , I thought it would sound quite fresh on a little boy as I don't hear it very often now

Matthew

GlitterBiscuits · 24/03/2022 16:01

Matthew by a long way

Miles is better than Myles

DisforDarkChocolate · 24/03/2022 16:03

Matthew by a mile. Lovely, lovely name. Myles is a bit blurgh.

2022HereWeCome · 24/03/2022 16:04

Matthew - classic name for a reason (can be shortened to Matt informally)

Too many Myles / Miles around (where I am anyway). I don't like it at all tbh

MrsGHarrison87 · 24/03/2022 16:09

I prefer Myles but not with George after it. George Myles sounds better to me.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 24/03/2022 16:10

Love Matthew

Scooby5kids · 24/03/2022 16:21

They're both okay traditional names and I do actually like them. They're both names that are popular and you won't have to worry about them being picked on for having a weird name. But at the same time, they're so common, that unless you have a really interesting second name or give them a unique middle name, they won't stand out much either. So maybe they're similar to a name like John Smith - which could be a good thing or bad thing depending how you look at it.

Londonmum1985 · 24/03/2022 18:06

It would definitely be Matthew for me.

Lilaclavenders · 24/03/2022 18:21

Matthew is dull. I dislike the ew sound. And Matt is awful imo.

I prefer Myles.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/03/2022 19:12

Both v nice

I’d go for Matthew as a lot of Milos about, and Miles/Myles is picking up. Matthew will stand out more, and Matt is nice.

DramaAlpaca · 24/03/2022 20:54

I much prefer Matthew.

WeasilyPleased · 24/03/2022 21:48

Outing but my favourite cousin is Matthew. He's such a great bloke and utterly hilarious so I vote that. It's a timeless classic.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 24/03/2022 23:22

I like Matthew, Matty when young, Matthew for work and Matt for the pub. Great all-rounder!

Every Miles I’ve ever met has been a knob, so not for me!

HomecomingKween · 25/03/2022 13:28

People on MN say things like 'this is outing, but I like cheese sandwiches'.
Lulu1919 · 25/03/2022 13:42

Matthew ....Matty is cute nick name ...not a name I'd choose but it's not a bad name !!
Myles...Not keen

Sweepingeyelashes · 25/03/2022 13:49

Having a family member with a difficult to spell name, I'd urge you to spell it Miles or he'll go through life saying "I'm Myles with a Y". It gets very wearing after a while. I'm not that keen on Matthew but it's inoffensive.

StrawberrySanta · 25/03/2022 13:51

I love Miles. Also love Milo

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/03/2022 18:18

I really like Matthew, it's a classic

Myles has always sound really pretentious to me and I imagine them to be quite a cold person, whereas I see Matthew as a warm name, a person who everybody likes

MissDollyMix · 27/03/2022 18:21

Really don’t like Myles- especially spelt like that.
Matthew is a good solid classic name. Underused at the moment too.
