I like it but not too sure on how the name is viewed. Any thoughts?

I like the sound of it but not the spelling for some reason. Romy just doesn't look like a real name on paper if that makes sense. Prefer the spelling Romee.

organicoatmilk · 22/03/2022 22:25

I've never met someone named Romy but I like it! Smile

DramaAlpaca · 22/03/2022 22:30

I like Romy. It's traditionally short for Rosemary, which is old fashioned now but still a very pretty name.

Prefer Romilly or Remy. Know a lovely Remy.

Remy is a French bloke’s name

She's definitely a girl! Her mum named her after a fictional female character.

Terrible sorry.

mintich · 22/03/2022 23:37

Reminds me of Romy and Michele's high school reunion.
I like it

urbanbuddha · 22/03/2022 23:53

Makes me think of Boris before anything eĺse, so no.

AHungryCaterpillar · 23/03/2022 01:08

Don’t like it

Orphlids · 23/03/2022 02:48

Don’t worry about the Boris connection, he’ll be old news one day and no one will remember his kids’ names. I think Romy is very nice, a pretty, gentle name. I’d be happy to introduce myself as Romy.

Madferit · 23/03/2022 02:51

Sprog of Boris

MrsMarkRonson · 23/03/2022 02:52

Love it. Would've used it if I'd had a girl (only have boys)

guiltyjellyfish · 23/03/2022 22:39

It’s a lovely feminine name. It’s more popular in other European countries, I think particularly so in France. I wouldn’t worry about the Boris connection, very soon no one give it any thought and certainly not your daughters peers who won’t know who he is Grin be a shame to not use a name you loved because of that

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 23/03/2022 23:07

I know someone whose son is called Roman and they use Romy as his nickname.

guiltyjellyfish · 24/03/2022 07:31

I don't get the hype about Roman, I've seen it mentioned loads on here but it's not popular at all where I live I've never met one but I've have met a couple of female Romy's though.

HelpMeHiveMind · 24/03/2022 09:05

And Michelle

The first thing I thought of.

I had no idea Boris Johnson had a child called Romy.

Viviennemary · 24/03/2022 09:11

I dont like it at all. It just doesn't appeal.

Amdone123 · 24/03/2022 09:14

I love Romany.

BiscuitLover3678 · 24/03/2022 13:03

I love it but Boris and Carrie have absolutely ruined it for me.

midsomermurderess · 25/03/2022 15:53

I like it. Although that weirdly huge baby in Spiral comes to mind.

bloominglovelyorange · 27/03/2022 08:22

@guiltyjellyfish Roman is the fastest rising boy name. Here's the graph showing it's usage (graph uses the official ONS data). It's not just people on mumsnet saying it's popular, the numbers speak for themselves, it's now top 30 but will be higher by the time the 2021 statistics come out

names.darkgreener.com/#roman

guiltyjellyfish · 27/03/2022 09:28

Yes I know it's fast rising, it's just not common where I live (a very big city) I haven't met one, I've come across Romy on girls though. Its fine, it seems like name that will be very of it's time. I reckon It'll peak soon then fall out of popularity.

guiltyjellyfish · 27/03/2022 09:45

@bloominglovelyorange that graph is really interesting thanks. Where did the popularity come from? Im wondering if it's linked to Roman Abramovich taking over Chelsea in 2003, as it seems to start going up around then. I wonder if it stated to seep into public consciousness? Hearing it more in the news etc and people thinking that's a nice name.

energywavering · 27/03/2022 09:47

I like it even more now BoJos used it 😊

Nelliephant1 · 27/03/2022 10:00

Love it. I worked with a Romy for a number of years and it always sounded lovely.
