Madeline not shortened to Maddie?

I adore the name - really dislike Maddie..

I'm hardly ever called my BC name as an adult.

Even if you like the shortened form you can't guarantee what people will call someone.
I was given a name suggested by my aunt, something like "Penelope" (but not exactly that, obviously) and everyone liked "Penny" as well.
I'm now "Penny" to everyone except that same aunt who calls me "Pen" which I hate, let alone my parents!

I know a Madelene and a Madeline professional and neither gets called Maddie. They do sometimes get Mads though

I would pronounce Madeline similar to Caroline, in which case I think you could use Lina as people sometimes used to for Caroline, though whether anyone WILL or not is I suppose a different matter.

I have known a couple of Madelines, one particularly well (also Madeleine which is the same really). I think it is lovely to have name that can be shortened or has some sort of nickname, it's friendly. I have a one syllable name and always wanted to be Liz/Beth, Maggie, Nicky or Sue when I was growing up. I don't care now of course but made sure my only child had an ordinary, classic name with a much used diminutive, which he likes.

Someone in her life, probably several people, will refer to her as Maddie. If that's going to make you clench your jaw in annoyance every time you hear it you should find another name.

I have a Madeleine, she is 10. She is always Madeleine or Mads as she doesn't like Maddie. She always corrects people who call her it!
