Emme as a full name

I love Emme/Emmie/Emmy but can't use the longer versions of the name (eg Emily/Emilia) because I have family/friends that have used them and I am not keen on the other options.

I'm considering using Emme as a full name as I think the Emmie and Emmy look too nickname. What do you think?

I have slight concerns that people might pronounce Emme as "Em".

Emma is a lovely name and then Emmie as a nn

demoness · 15/03/2022 09:21

I think Emmie or Emmy would be better since they can only be pronounced one way. Whereas with Emme you might get Em, Emmie, Em-may, Emma.

CakesOfVersailles · 15/03/2022 09:26

I think Emma or Emmeline are lovely.

Emmie and Emmy seem like nicknames to me.

user1477391263 · 15/03/2022 09:27

I would absolutely just say "Em." You need to spell it Emmie or Emmy if that is how you want it pronounced.

Emma, Emily, Emerald?

babyjellyfish · 15/03/2022 09:33

Emmy Rossum is an Emmanuelle.

Emmy/Emmie/Emme is absolutely fine for day to day but it is quite little girly and I think it would be better to have a long name on the birth certificate in case she wants a more grown up name when she is older.

I love Emmeline because it's pretty and has a great link to the suffragettes.

Jacketandbeans · 15/03/2022 10:57

I like Emmy or Emmie but definitely not Emme.
I think you could use it as a full name. I liked Emma though, so elegant and classic and you can still use Emmy.

liquidrevolution · 15/03/2022 11:35

Emma is a classic name, not too unusual that people misspell and has a nice meaning. My daughter is the only one in her 2-form intake Primary.

and yes I call her Emmie Smile.

canyoubelievethat · 15/03/2022 11:54

I like Emmie. I suppose it's no different to using Ellie, Mollie, Millie as stand alone names when using the 'ie' spelling.

Mama1980 · 15/03/2022 11:56

Emé is a name in French, pronounced em- ay (with ay being pronounced as in h-ay)

JemimaTiggywinkle · 15/03/2022 11:56

Emma is lovely and I quite like Emmie too.

Hodehodeho · 15/03/2022 12:26

My daughter is called Emmeline and we get so many compliments about it (while we don’t for her sibling). She loves her name and doesn’t really use her nickname (Emmy) as we expected her too.

She’s also v proud to share her name with a kick ass woman (Emmeline Pankhurst).

babyjellyfish · 15/03/2022 14:28

@Mama1980

Emé is a name in French, pronounced em- ay (with ay being pronounced as in h-ay)
Think this is a shortening of Eméline.
MintyIguana · 15/03/2022 14:31

I know an Emme short for Emmeline (Emma-Line). I think it's pretty and doesn't seem to cause too many misspellings.

Meandthesky · 15/03/2022 16:56

I much prefer Emma

Emme looks like it should be pronounced Em to me. If you want Emmy then use Emmy/Emmie. But I still think Emma is miles better, just use Emmy as a nickname

Hodehodeho · 15/03/2022 18:07

[Emmeline is pronounced ‘Emma-Leen’ not Emma-Line]

PuppyMonkey · 15/03/2022 18:12

Thought this was going to be about Esme.

bloominglovelyorange · 15/03/2022 18:35

I love Emmie
One of my favourite names would use for sure!

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 15/03/2022 18:37

What about Immi / Immie as a nickname for Imogen ?

LadyLazarus40 · 15/03/2022 18:43

I have an Emma (16) she loves her name and has always been the only Emma in her year. We (and some of her friends) call her Emmie / Em.

Unicornspirit · 15/03/2022 18:48

I really like it, spelt Emmie or Emi though, not Emme.

ElephantandGrasshopper · 15/03/2022 18:53

I would have pronounced it Em I'm afraid.

Emmeline is lovely and makes me think of the suffragette.

mizzo · 15/03/2022 18:56

I love Emma, Emmeline and Emmie.

When I first saw Emme I though maybe it was pronounced Em or Emmay.

MerryMarigold · 15/03/2022 18:57

I like Emma but I don't think you could go with Emmie as a nickname for Emma. I would spell it Emmie or Emmy. It's a lovely standalone name though Mumsnet is not the place to be 'untraditional' so you'll probably get loads of negative responses. I do agree that the Emme spelling is a bit silly.

babynamelover · 15/03/2022 19:01

Emme is beautiful totally don't understand all the comments about confusion over how to say it.

Emmie and Emi look terrible and cutsey and Emme is so elegant.

Go with Emme if you love it, I think it's timeless.

Knockoneofftheshelftowin · 15/03/2022 19:02

I know someone that is called Emmy/Emmie
(Don't know correct spelling) but that is her full name. She is in her 20's.
