Final 3 names, but we can't decide, so thoughts welcome!
Surname is Elliot. Thanks :)

Tabitha. Great name

boomshakalacka · 13/03/2022 20:04

Sylvie is nicer than Sylvia in my opinion

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 13/03/2022 20:05

Aurelia Elliot is an absolute mouthful.

Tabitha gets my vote

DramaAlpaca · 13/03/2022 20:22

Sylvia, or even better, Sylvie. A name that doesn't end in -a flows better with Elliot.

Aurelia is OK.

I have an irrational dislike of Tabitha, unless you a naming a cat.

Zillamop · 13/03/2022 21:04

Sylvia

1Hazel1 · 13/03/2022 21:05

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, it's a hard decision. This will be our last DC so no chance of using the names we don't pick in the future! We don't mind too much if Aurelia gets popular - we were really pleased when we picked DC1's name to see it was languishing in the 400s, but 5 years later is is almost in the top 50! Also don't mind if people think Tabitha is a cat's name - I know cats called Charlotte and Henry 🤷‍♀️ I think if we went for Sylvia we would definitely use Sylvie as a nickname, but I think Sylvia sounds a bit more grown up for the full name.

No one's ever referred to my DDs name (Tabitha) as a cat's name (it's a biblical name), and she doesn't get Tabby for short.

Good luck with your new baby whatever you decide to call her!

1Hazel1 · 13/03/2022 21:52

@KirstenBlest

Sorry to be negative but you will get an eliding r with the surname.

e.g. Tabithur Relliot

Friend has this surname and they chose names not ending in -a for this reason

What accent do you have? I wouldn't end any of those names with an 'ur' sound more like an 'uh' sound

I like Sylvia best and I think it goes with your surname best too

AnnieandMiri · 13/03/2022 22:07

Tabitha! My Tabitha is Tiggy or Bea or sometimes Tibby Grin I'm not sure how any of them emerged!

MangoLipstick · 13/03/2022 22:10

I really like the name Tabitha.

Not keen on Sylvia. It sounds old fashioned, but not in a good way.

WeasilyPleased · 13/03/2022 22:26

I echo @KirstenBlest. The a ending make all 3 names sound clunky. Sylvie?

TatianaBis · 13/03/2022 23:03

I agree about the a endings - not ideal.

Aurelia is my favourite but Aurelia Elliot is a bit of a mouthful. (Aurelia is the feminine of Aurelius the Roman name - as in Marcus Aurelius. The Disney link is a bit witless).

Sylvia I find very dated. And I much prefer Talitha to Tabitha - far more elegant.

Personally I would keep looking for a name that doesn’t end in a or t.

Synchrony · 13/03/2022 23:08

I LOVE Sylvia!
Find Aurelia a mouthful with Elliot.

Sangriasinthesol · 14/03/2022 08:47

Tabitha is best. Sylvia is dated IMO and Aurelia Elliott is hard to say

I agree with PP who said A-ending names sound clunky with Elliott. I’d also say ‘Tabithur Elliott’ with my accent

My name actually ends with an 'a' and I've not had a problem with my name running into my surname. These are our final 3 names which took a long time to agree on, so I don't think I could bear going back to the drawing board now!

I really like Talitha too, but we have a Natalia in the family who goes by Tali so a bit too similar.

Thanks again for all your opinions everyone, I am slightly leaning towards Tabitha :)

I went to uni with a Sylvie ( not Sylvia) who had beautiful long hair and tanned limbs. The sort of girl who got picked up by her boyfriend in a classic car and enjoys a martini. Aurelia sounds quite waif like and probably writes poetry and plays the piano or the cello. Tabitha - potential for mischief there… I think she’s probably good at hockey and home baking.

YomAsalYomBasal · 14/03/2022 09:59

Aurelia is the name of the gloves they used in my labour ward, just to warn you! I wondered while I was in there if anyone used it as name inspo

Eleanoravarney · 14/03/2022 10:03

Oh ny goodness, I just tried saying 'Aurelia Elliot' and it was so hard! I think you need yo knock that one off the list. It sounds like Aurelierrelliot. Like a tongue twister! They almost rhyme! Tabitha Elliot sounds best.

Oh that’s funny! I just read that one of those trashy reality tv celebs called their daughter Aurelia recently so that’s kind of put me off the name now too.

I came here to say exactly the same as @ladygindiva

Sylvie Elliot would be better.

scottishnames · 14/03/2022 15:25

Tabitha and Sylvia are both good names. I probably prefer Tabitha. I don't like Aurelia - IMHO there are nicer Roman names (including Sylvia, of course! - thought the Romans spelled it Silvia).

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/03/2022 17:11

Sylvia - shimmery and elegant

I do like Tabitha but it's a strong flavour, and I'm not sure I'd be keen to be called Tabitha as an adult

Aurelia is just too Disney these days.

YvanEhtNiojYvanEhtNioj · 14/03/2022 17:14

I like Sylvia the best.
Tabitha is fine.
Aurelia is absolutely hideous. It sounds like an ear disease.

custardbear · 14/03/2022 17:20

Tabitha gets my vote as I have one lol - and she LOVES Tabby.

Aurelia is ok but I can never get aureole out of my head after a work colleague couldn't remember her staff members new baby's name 😳
Sylvia is dated
