Dylan and Declan too similar for brother names?

I am pregnant with our second boy and already have a little boy called Dylan. The only other boy name I really love is Declan. I’m wondering if it is just too similar to Dylan. Any thoughts? My husband thinks if we’re shouting on them they might get confused who we’re calling on! Thanks so much!

I agree with your husband!

WalkingOnSonshine · 13/03/2022 13:39

I think it’s a bit too similar.

What about Lachlan?

Same mid to end sound, but distinctly different at the beginning.

HereBdragons · 13/03/2022 13:40

Getting confused between which kid you’re calling happens even when the names are completely different.
I think the names are different enough, but if it bothers you or your H then that’s fair enough. Are there any others contenders for DS2’s name?

Bagelsandbrie · 13/03/2022 13:40

Too similar and I’d never go for both names starting with the same letter - when they get older and get post it’s a nightmare!

sweetbellyhigh · 13/03/2022 13:43

They are very similar which is no doubt why you like them.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 13/03/2022 13:45

A ndn had a Carlton and a Clayton. Never ever remembered who was who!! Too samey op.
And Dec is awful!

Thewindwhispers · 13/03/2022 13:46

Too similar.

helpmum2003 · 13/03/2022 13:47

Too similar, sorry

DramaAlpaca · 13/03/2022 13:51

If you're planning to abbreviate them to Dyl and Dec you could just about get away with it.

I really want to say they aren't too similar, but I'm just not sure on this one.

Very, very true and causes arguments, well it did with mine.
Lampyshady · 13/03/2022 13:55

Dexter?

Jacketandbeans · 13/03/2022 13:56

I'm surprised by the responses, I think they sound fine!

LPR0186 · 13/03/2022 14:06

Thanks a lot everyone for the quick responses! It sounds like the general consensus is they are too similar! I hadn’t considered the mail point which is very valid.

Think I might have to get on board with our other ideas - Cameron and Lewis! WalkingOnSonshine, we have also thought about Lachlan :)

Thank you! I hadn’t appreciated how similar they felt myself!

Cameron, Lewis and Lachlan are all nice names. I'd go with Lewis if I were you.

Svara · 13/03/2022 17:03

Much too similar. If you have names starting with the same letter they need to be completely different, those end the same as well.

Meandthesky · 13/03/2022 19:38

Another one saying too similar but I really like Cameron from your other options

Kanaloa · 14/03/2022 01:23

Bit too similar for me. Cameron and Lewis are both gorgeous though, actually nicer than Declan I think! But if you love Dec maybe you could have Dexter?

CatsArePeople · 16/03/2022 22:36

A ndn had a Carlton and a Clayton. Never ever remembered who was who!!

The "ton" part unnecessary. Carl and Clay would have been cool

PlantMummy87 · 17/03/2022 00:02

I agree that they feel a bit too similar, feels
bit of a tongue twister to say Dylan and Declan.

peaceinourtime · 17/03/2022 21:58

No i could imagine twins being called that. Its perfectly fine for brothers
