What do you think of the name Atticus? The sound, the associations you have, any thoughts really.

Thanks!

The actor who played Brick in The Middle was Atticus something or other.

@Pieceofpurplesky

As PP have said - in the first book Harper Lee wrote (but published a long time after TKAM) Atticus is racist. So screams Of try hard literary family who don't really read ...

Reminds me of Jack Whitehall and his friend atticus

Orphlids · 14/03/2022 20:24

I’m afraid I agree with the PPs who have said the parents want people to know they love TKAM. I would suspect the name wasn’t chosen so much because they love the sound of it, but because they think it makes them look clever. I’d wonder if their reading was limited to set texts from their school years. Atticus Finch is a problematic character anyway.

JennyHogon · 14/03/2022 20:29

I'm indifferent to TKAM, but I like the name Atticus.

WaitinginVain · 14/03/2022 20:51

I like it.

lovelychops · 14/03/2022 20:56

Pretentious and try hard.
Am yet to meet one in real life like a lot of the dreadful names always being suggested on MN

nearlyspringyay · 14/03/2022 21:58

TKAM but not pretentious , I love it

CatsArePeople · 14/03/2022 22:04

A very fat constipated cat (a meme flying around facebook a few years ago)

My son is Atticus and believe me I have read a vast amount of books since GCSEs! I just loved the name since I was a teenager. He was named before Go Set a Watchman was published. I still have no regrets as I love the name. He doesn't have a nickname (Atticus is not hard to pronounce or a long name), he's in secondary school and all his friends call him by his full name and completely accepted as any other name, it's not that unusual among his peers.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 14/03/2022 22:33

Makes me think you haven't read a book since your GCSEs.

DinosaursEatMan · 14/03/2022 22:34

I love it, it was on our shortlist for dc2

itrytomakemyway · 14/03/2022 22:35

I love it

Clarabe1 · 14/03/2022 22:36

I can’t imagine cuddling a cute little baby and cooing ‘Atticus’ It sounds like a sort of fungal infection.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/03/2022 22:37

I roll my eyes a bit, but I don't dislike the name. There was an outbreak of little Atticuses in Walthamstow 7 years ago, but it never went viral and I haven't heard of any recent ones.

Haggisfish3 · 14/03/2022 22:37

@FlamingoDust-I love little lunch! It’s so funny!!! And I like atticus as a name.

PPCD · 14/03/2022 22:38

It makes me think of the horrible histories movie. Atti is a great nn.
