Struggling to agree on a girls name

TooMuchCheesecake · 11/03/2022 14:18

2 weeks until baby girl is due and DH and I can't agree on names.
So far we both kind of like Iris, Lottie, and Madeline, but not sure any of them feel like the one.
Other names I like are Olive, Eliza, Edie, Matilda.
DH likes Primrose and Paisley.

Opinions on these names? Or any other suggestions? Thanks!

Like all of your choices except Paisley but that may be because I'm Scottish. I do love the Ukraine's first lady" s name, Olena.

RealRaymondReddington · 11/03/2022 14:21

Edie is lovely, but prefer Edith as a full name. Olive is also pretty, as is Hazel as an alternative.

Woollystockings · 11/03/2022 14:25

I like Iris, Eliza, Matilda, Primrose.
Don’t like Paisley, Lottie, Edie, Olive, Madeline ( Madeleine is nice)

wonderwoman26 · 11/03/2022 14:37

All lovely names - we have Aida picked out for a girl if ours is a little girl - fits the old fashioned names you have listed there.

Olive is also a fave of mine

MissCarolina · 11/03/2022 14:43

They're all lovely names. I love Madeline and Matilda and I quite like Paisley too.

msc6199 · 11/03/2022 14:44

I LOVE Olive and will definitely be naming my daughter this if I am blessed with one! :)

NameChangeCity123 · 11/03/2022 14:45

I have a wee soft spot for Olive

Heckythump1 · 11/03/2022 14:45

I have a Lottie, and know a couple of others... fab name!

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 11/03/2022 14:47

Eliza. Elegant. Timeless.

daisypond · 11/03/2022 14:50

They are fine, but I’m not keen on Madeline, though like Madeleine. Lottie is too twee. Edie is bland. Olive I’m not sure of. It has dreary vibes to me. Maybe could grow on me.

Hikoridikori · 11/03/2022 14:56

When I read Paisley I thought of parsley Confused

Lottie is a nn, not a standalone name.
Olive is the olive oil/tree... Olivia would be better.
Edie is without substance.
Madeline is nice but will be Maddy... don't like the nn.
Primrose is too much.
Eliza is nice, nothing weird/dull/bad associated with it.

But the winner is Iris! Beautiful name!

1stTimeMama · 11/03/2022 14:58

I like Iris, Eliza (I have one!) And Primrose.
Really don't like Lottie and Madeline, the others are pleasant enough though.

ladygindiva · 11/03/2022 15:04

Of you and your Dh suggestions I love Primrose, or Rose for short! It's gorgeous x

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/03/2022 15:05

I'd go for Edith nn Edie which is lovely and less used right now.
I love Iris, and Charlotte nn Lottie - both very oversed though.
Matilda, Madeline, Eliza - all nice, though popular

Olive I think only belongs in salad, Primrose is appallingly wet, and Paisley is a naughty girl's name.

Lois, Jasmine, Marianne, Adela, Jocelyn, Constance, Claudia, Serena, Cassia, Miranda, Frances are less usual options. Or Beatrice, Jessica, Lydia are more popular but not overused.

Snowbell99 · 11/03/2022 15:06

I don't really like Iris, it just doesn't sound nice to me. It is also getting sort of trendy. That wouldn't bother me, but something to consider.

Lottie is cute but too informal. I dislike Charlotte. So I don't really know what to do, but Lottie is too cutesy.

I like Madeline but it feels a bit 90s and I still think of Madeleine McCann which is a sad story. I strongly dislike the nickname Maddie.

Olive is okay. I love olives but the name doesn't do much for me. I think I would prefer not to be called Olive, thinking about it. It is fine on someone else but I just wouldn't love to be referred to as Olive.

Eliza - I find this a bit 90s and I never liked the sound.

Edie - is too cute and informal. I don't mind cute names but the really nickname-ish ones are not my style. I personally wouldn't want to introduce myself at a job interview as Edie aged 27 or so. But it is a personal choice I am sure some people wouldn't mind.

Matilda - I love this. I would go with Matilda. Beautiful name and classic, elegant. And if you want a cute nickname you can always use Mattie or Tillie.

Primrose - it's cute but a bit Hunger Games and maybe better as a middle name. Matilda Primrose?

Paisley - I am sorry but I find it ugly. It sounds like a child beauty pageant queen or something along those lines. Also "parsley". However, with this spelling it is still okay. I have seen Paizlee and Payslee and much worse.

Matilda. Or Matilda Primrose.

Suggestions:

Poppy
Lily
Peony (soft spot for this but might not work)
Persephone
Calliope
Charline (this is the French feminine of Charles and I like the sound better than that of Charlotte and the look better than Charlene)
Maia or Maya
Kaia or Kaya
Ainsley

LaTangerina · 11/03/2022 15:06

I love Edie!

LaTangerina · 11/03/2022 15:07

And Lottie too. Also Lotta.

timestheyarechanging · 11/03/2022 16:09

Iris definitely. Or Pearl. Or Willow.

timestheyarechanging · 11/03/2022 16:12

Oh Edie is very very popular at the moment. I know of four born in the last year. As is Elsie now. My mums best friend is an Elsie - she's 82 and can't understand the popularity!

PoleFairy · 11/03/2022 16:16

I like all your names. Other options if you are interested
Eloise
Alba
Ottilie
Ira (pronounced eye-rah) love this name but DH is Irish and we have a very Irish surname!
Violet

KirstenBlest · 11/03/2022 17:03

It has to be Paisley

ThrobbingToothacheOfTheMind · 11/03/2022 17:08

I only like Iris from your list.

Don't go with Paisley. It's not a nice place to be named after.

thecatwhogotthecream · 11/03/2022 17:12

For me I vote Matilda or Primrose

Matilda IS popular but it's a lovely name

GeneLovesJezebel · 11/03/2022 17:13

See what she suits when she is born.

KirstenBlest · 11/03/2022 17:15

I was thinking of Paisley as someone to be named after.

Paisley Anfield has a nice ring to it.

You'll never walk alone
