What are your thoughts on Kyra, pronounced KY-ra?

I really like it but it annoys me that it doesn't have a clear etymology and that it might get confused with Ciara (Keira, Kiera, Kira) KEE-ra.

Do you think people will pronounce it KY-ra, as I am intending?

Do you like it?

Does it feel too trendy or insubstantial?

@Marblessolveeverything

It reminds me of a star war character Kyra Ren, sorry.
The Star Wars character is called Kylo Ren

@AHungryCaterpillar

I don’t get it either I really can’t see how people are getting kee from KY 🤔
Because Language is weird and sometimes y is pronounced with an ‘ee’ sound. Family. Yvette. The green name Cyra is pronounced see-ra sometimes. People (mis)pronounce Dylan as having an ‘I’ sound all the time.

Y is tricksy!

The word Kyrie is in a Greek prayer which is said during the Mass, the church service that Catholics attend every Sunday.
The prayer means 'Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy". It is often sung with the words repeated over and over tofit the music.
Anyone who regularly attends Mass will be used to seeing "Kyrie" and reading "keer-ee-ay".

Kyriaki is Sunday in Greek it's not just something you hear in a prayer. It's also a very common name - Kyriaki for a girl and kyriacos for a boy both shorten to Kyri, pronounced Kee ri.

I immediately pronounced it the way you said in my head. Kigh-ra

I don’t love it.

My MIL is Kyra. She's never had an issue! It's a great name.

I’m waiting for the person who will say there are three named this in her daughters class. Always happens.
