Nice list, apart from Dora which I think is ugly.

Tess and Lois are my favourites, along with Sybil.

If you like Sybil, Daphne is in a similar style.

Love Lois
Ramona is rather fabulous
Not mad on Merryn, but like the Scottish Mirren, or Meredith nn Merry
Dora is sparky and sweet, prefer as a nn for Dorothea or Theodora
I like Tessa as a nn for Esther, Teresa or Elizabeth

Sabrina - quite like, witchy in a good way
Imogen and Sybil are fine but a bit pudding-y

Sienna - no, gone downmarket Disney

Honestly I’d go for Lois, but Ines, Astra, Aphra, Adela, Luella, Robin, Fernanda, Cassia, Serena, Sanchia, Vivienne, Marianne, Thora, Stella, Estella, Ffion, Manon, Seren, Catrin, Iona, Ione, Yolanda, Ianthe, Ismene, Aster, Oona, Zelda might all be alternatives

@Snowbell99

Hello!

Sybil - I really love it, it should make a comeback. It's so cool and mysterious. But I would spell it Sibyl, like the word. Sybil is fine too, though.
Imogen - feels sort of tired and a tiny bit dated. I know it's Shakespearean but I met a few born in the 90s and 00s and even though it wasn't extremely common I associate it with women in their 20s. I also don't like the sound. It doesn't sound very pretty to me and I dislike Immy as a nickname (I know an Imogen "Immy"). It also makes me think of "image" and "innocent".
Merryn - it sounds sort of harsh and old to me, sorry. Like an old witch or elderly woman.
Ramona - I never really liked the sound. I prefer just Mona even though depending on your accent it may not sound nice. I prefer Romy, Mona or similar names.
Sabrina - I like it. It's cool and witchy. But it is 80s dated where I live and many people associate it with mean girls here for some reason (I have asked about it on boards). Sabina is nice!
Lois - I don't get the appeal of this as it sounds incredibly ugly to me (sorry!). I like older names but this one doesn't appeal.
Sienna - I love this but I prefer it as Siena (like the city in Italy). Sienna makes me think a bit of Sienna Miller and I am not a fan.
Tess - too harsh.
Dora - sort of cute. Dora the Explorer.

You think Lois is ugly but you like Morrigan and Mona ?! 🤯
Titsflyingsouth · 11/03/2022 11:09

Dora is cute. Tess is Ok. I really don't like the others at all....

scottishnames · 11/03/2022 11:54

Sybil - prefer Sibyl spelling and much prefer Sibylla
Imogen - nice name but perhaps had its moment?
Merryn - fine, but not my taste
Ramona - fine, but not my taste
Sabrina - nice. Goddess of the River Severn. The witch reference is surely rather old now?
Lois - don't like; to me, not a pleasant sound
Sienna - really don't like; I just think dirty brown paint pigment. The beautiful Italian town is pronounced differently
Tess - fine. Perhaps a bit short and blunt, but you might like short names.
Dora - OK but prefer longer version Dorothea or Dorothy

Favourite would be Sibyl/Sibylla (fabulous mythology connected with the name)

Rosieposie101 · 11/03/2022 12:22

Sybil - no horrible
Imogen - love
Merryn - love
Ramona- love
Sabrina - dislike but for no real reason
Lois - quite ugly and plain
Sienna - pretty but too popular
Tess - lovely
Dora - meh

Rosieposie101 · 11/03/2022 12:24

Merryn - hate it. Feels like a pronunciation/ spelling nightmare tbh.

Feeling 🤯 about anyone struggling to spell or pronounce this name.

peaceinourtime · 11/03/2022 20:09

Lois and Tess are lovely. Instead of Sienna which is fairly common and boring consider Sereina its beautiful.

DogsAndGin · 15/03/2022 21:49

Imogen and Sienna are nice. The rest seem like they would suit an old American librarian. And Ramona could work in a diner Confused
