Getting hitched and want to double barrel my surname but it really clashes :(

It's similar too - Crosby-Cattrick

Should I? Shouldn't I? Please help!

Is it better the other way round ?

Suprima · 06/03/2022 17:43

I think both ways sound fine

Orphlids · 06/03/2022 18:34

Ooh, I really like it!

toastiee · 06/03/2022 19:07

@Orphlids do you? That makes me feel better! It's not those names but I tried to get a similar sounding ones without outing myself.

I like it.

We double barrelled too. It's fine although my daughter does apparently take half the tech class to type in her username as she has the longest name in the class.

Tallerthanmost · 06/03/2022 19:17

If you have kids..... And if they get married etc (lots of ifs I admit)
Let's say two people both with double barrelled names marry. Do their kids then have quadruple barreled names?

I don't see why people don't agree on a surname?

toastiee · 06/03/2022 19:21

@Tallerthanmost because I want to keep mine too. To me, it's my identity

Yeah, all those Spanish people you meet with insanely long names because nobody has ever come up with a solution to this problem.

Oh, wait...

Loisiana · 06/03/2022 19:32

I like it too!!!

CowsAreNotGreen · 06/03/2022 19:40

Absolutely fine to do

But you arnt keeping yours? You are changing to a hybrid of yours plus partners.
Would your partner not take yours?

I still think it's comical. You won't make a choice, so go with both surnames. But then you are forcing your kids to make the choice.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 06/03/2022 20:27

It’s fine! Or just keep your own name as is. But give the kids both names to reflect their parents.

Are you both hyphenating your names together?

The ‘Bingo’ moment occurred v early in the thread Grin @Tallerthanmost I suspect that if we bring our children up with the confidence to make choices, and we leave them free from any ‘shoulds and oughts’ of (patriarchal) tradition, they will do what is right for them and not strung together 4 names , then 8 etc. There are any number of things they can do.

Toodleloodle · 06/03/2022 21:06

Go for it. I kept my surname when I married, but when we had our first child we all double barrelled. It's been fine so far. I hate the tradition of women and children automatically taking the man's name and so does my husband. Our children have both names - they may choose to use both, or one or the other or something completely different, it's their choice.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/03/2022 21:38

I like it. It’s sassy. Ideally the other way round, but either.
