I really like it. But is it dated? Old fashioned? Due in 2 weeks and bored to tears thinking about it!
Sister is Jessica so they will both have the same initials.

I have one. He decided himself at around 6 that he was going to be Joe and doesn't like Joseph, but I love both, and as his mother I have the divine right to call him by his given name Grin

MyAnacondaMight · 05/03/2022 23:06

Same initials is really annoying for siblings…

greenerpastures2022 · 05/03/2022 23:16

Joseph is my favourite boys name by a country mile.

greenerpastures2022 · 05/03/2022 23:20

I actually named my son Joseph when he was born but changed it after a couple of weeks because teamed with our surname it was the name of a very well know celeb - changed from Joseph to James, but very nearly Edward!! Good luck with your decision.

CakesOfVersailles · 05/03/2022 23:24

I like it.

Origamiheaven · 05/03/2022 23:34

My ds is a Joseph. Hes 19 now and gets called Joe. I like both

ellenpartridge · 06/03/2022 00:00

I like it and don't find it dated. It's classic.

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2022 00:16

I love it, but not the diminutives. One of my boys has it as a middle name.

Kite22 · 06/03/2022 00:29

Lovely name although I think it makes life easier for siblings to have different initials.

Ashara · 06/03/2022 00:38

I have a Joseph, occasionally a Joe but never Joey. Also occasionally Joss which I love

solbunny · 06/03/2022 01:16

@capstix

I like the name Joe. Joe is one of the boys. I can't say I like the name Joseph, if that's how you plan to address your son. That sounds too archaic to me these days, like Josiah, Bertram, Harold etc.

However, if you are going to address him as Joe, then I do think you should Christen him Joseph. I personally find it mildly grating when people Christen their children with short names. If you're going to call your son Harry, Christen him Henry. Ditto Jacks should be Johns, Jamies should be Jameses and Toms should be Thomases. But that's just me.

Absolutely agree, this is also my bugbear! A colleague of mine has a baby who they've christened 'Tommy' and I think it's daft that his full name isn't just Thomas Confused

OP, I do think Joseph is a lovely name personally. I have always loved Joey as a nickname too Smile

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/03/2022 03:45

I like Joseph but only if it's pronounced Jo-suff.

On Coronation Street it sounds like Jo-zuff and it really bugs me.

I agree with Jamie/James and Tom/Thomas but Jack and Harry have been independent names for a few centuries now.

maddy68 · 06/03/2022 03:51

I love the name Joseph 😍

ElliotGoss · 06/03/2022 04:58

Thanks for your thoughts. The only other name we have in mind is Joel so they will have probably have the same initials. One will be Miss and one Mr and with 5 years between them I doubt post will be that much of an issue.

Joel is lovely. Go with that.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/03/2022 06:37

Lovely, not dated at all, goes nicely with Jessica

I love Joss but if OP's DD goes by Jess that might get confusing!
Happylittlethoughts · 06/03/2022 07:35

I like Joe but Josrph is a dreary muddy grey coloured name. Sorry but nope

GeneLovesJezebel · 06/03/2022 07:36

It’s lovely, classic.

whywouldntyou · 06/03/2022 08:10

@Blubells

He'll end up as Joe. I'm not keen
Not necessarily - mine is Joseph and is always Joseph, we never call him Joe. He is in his 20s.
siblingrevelryagain · 06/03/2022 08:24

I’ve somehow managed to straddle two camps here with my name choices and piss people off for different reasons; my boy is Joe, registered/baptised as ‘Joe’ whereas my daughter is Frankie (and was from before birth) but registered/baptised Francesca.

Not sure why-I don’t like Joseph (although it’s inoffensive), but love short boys names like Joe/Ben/Sam etc, and with my daughter it was in a world where CV’s we’re still a thing and I thought if she had a neutral name she might get more of a foot in the door if there was any sexism at play. Maybe I over think things (and I loved both names!)

ElliotGoss · 06/03/2022 08:25

I love Jos too but as mentioned Jos and Jess is a bit much Smile
