Jacob...Rees-Mogg??

Need a bit of perspective please! We're really struggling with DS1's name. I have a "shortlist" of 16 names. My husband is incredibly meh about all names and has contributed a total of 0 names.

One that we both agreed on was Jacob, until I woke up in the middle of the night with the words "Jacob Rees-Mogg" emblazoned on my brain.

Baby's surname will be double-barrelled...

My husband had not made the connection until I mentioned it and now I'm kicking myself because he's so horrified by the association.

So...is it actually that bad? We'll try to avoid Annunziata if we have a girl next Grin

As long as your surnames aren't Rees and Mogg I really can't see it being an issue.

Jellycatrabbit · 04/03/2022 11:08

I know loads of Jacobs, it'll be fine! Unless your surname is actually similar rather than simply also being double barrelled, you are overthinking Wink

Jellycatrabbit · 04/03/2022 11:09

Ps my dh vetoed Dominic because of Dominic Cummings even though our surname is totally different- so i feel your pain!

Fl0w3ry · 04/03/2022 11:14

I wouldn’t make the connection because I had to Google the persons name!
Unless your surname sounds the same I don’t think others would make the connection if they have heard of him. Jacob is a great name.

Ijustdespair · 04/03/2022 11:14

I know a couple of Jacobs and have never thought of RM!

miltonj · 04/03/2022 11:20

It's a common enough name that there's no associations that stick out. No one jumps to George bush when hearing the name George,

Jacob is a lovely name for your son.

Thank you everyone! I think baby naming might be driving me a bit loopy. Too much pressure!

Is the double barrelled surname also two single syllable names? That’s when I wouldn’t, if the name had the exact same rhythm

TheVanguardSix · 04/03/2022 11:25

I love the name Jacob. And I never, ever, ever, ever, EVER would associate any Jacob with Rees-Mogg.
Boris is a different story, sadly. I used to love that name... as in Boris and Natasha. But now that it's busy-balls Boris and Carrie, I just couldn't name a child Boris.
Back to Jacob- excellent name.

Happenchance · 04/03/2022 11:25

Jacob is fine. How about Jacobi?

GertrudeKerfuffle · 04/03/2022 13:25

It's a great name, you'll be claiming it back for the people from that 'dusty Victorian pencil' as I once saw him referred to here on mn Grin

Bootiesandsocks · 04/03/2022 13:45

@GertrudeKerfuffle Ahaha I LOVE that

Hmm

Zillamop · 04/03/2022 16:20

If your surname is Bees-Fogg or similar then no, but otherwise no problem.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/03/2022 20:07

No - it’s a popular and nice name.

And let’s hope to God that twat will be a distant memory by the time your son is at school.
