Not my cup of tea. I prefer Polly or Lena!

RealRaymondReddington · 03/03/2022 14:37

I like it, I also like Paulina.

FayCarew · 03/03/2022 14:38

Paulina?

I prefer Polly on its own

SummaLuvin · 03/03/2022 15:12

I like it, pretty, simple, snappy, familiar yet not dull. I would assume some Eastern European ancestry.

Cornettoninja · 03/03/2022 15:46

It’s a beautiful name spoken but I have to admit there’s something seeing it written down that makes me hesitate. I think that would go the more I heard it.

I love polly as a nn.

demoness · 03/03/2022 16:04

I think it's lovely. I have heard of a few Russian and Eastern European women with this name e.g. athletes. I like Paulina too.

scottishnames · 03/03/2022 16:23

Really, I think it depends on your heritage. If Eastern European or to honour a friend/family member etc with that spelling, then Polina; if English-language then Paulina (simply because that's closest to the usual Eng-lang pronunciation). Also, FWIW, Paulina is a brave and admirable Shakespearean heroine, so that spelling has a long history, at least in an English language context..

It's an elegant and dignified name, in either spelling; it needs reviving.

BlueGreyApple · 03/03/2022 16:41

I like it but I would probably assume you are Russian or Eastern Europe or at least have family from there.

toastofthetown · 03/03/2022 17:25

I really don't like it. I love Polly though (but hate every name which it could be derived from).

narcdad · 03/03/2022 17:27

No not for me, too much like Pauline which is bloody dreadful (sorry to any Pauline's)

Hadtocomment · 03/03/2022 17:39

Like! Like spelling and like Polly!

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/03/2022 21:40

No. Isn’t it the name of that poor kid who was killed in Ukraine yesterday?

Anyway it sounds like an odd made up version of the already odd Pollyanna in the UK.

So either Paulina - or Polly is a nn for Mary, so maybe Mary / Marianne / Maryam / Maria / Rosemary etc nn Polly

Or Madeleine, Caroline, Emmeline, Clementine nn Lena

Hawkins001 · 03/03/2022 21:45

Polina,

If I remember, a tutor who taught me had that name, it's a nice name

Phormiumjester · 03/03/2022 21:46

I love Polly. I'd just use that.

Just thought, Martin, after reading your comment
ReadtheReviews · 03/03/2022 22:56

The Pol prefix says chicken to me because of pollo and poulet.

maddy68 · 03/03/2022 22:58

It's a very popular name in my country I know lots of Polinas and they are all lovely so yes :)

deadlanguage · 03/03/2022 23:00

I think it’s nice, I definitely prefer it to Paulina as I’ve always found Paul quite ugly. I would assume central/Eastern European though and would find it a bit weird if you weren’t.

Cornettoninja · 04/03/2022 07:48

I think you may have hit on why I have my reservations on seeing it written down. Again it’s a lovely name on hearing it, but I definitely have a block on seeing the word.
Dinoteeth · 04/03/2022 07:52

Polina makes me think Poland. I'd stick with Paula or Pauline.

WildWombat · 04/03/2022 07:53

My first thought was polonium, the poison Putin used on that poor defector chap Litvinenko 😳 I'd go with Paulina, or just Polly alone.

RestingStitchFace · 04/03/2022 18:20

Not my cup of tea tbh but then I'm not at all keen on similar names: Polly, Paul, Pauline, Paula etc.

Gowithme · 04/03/2022 18:25

It's the name of the little girl with the pink hair who was shot in Ukraine and whose picture was on the front of the papers - so it just makes me feel sad.
