Considering similar name to friends’ DD

Would you tell a close friend if you were planning on calling your child a similar name to theirs (who was born a year before - not a you’d decided on the name then they called theirs something similar situation)?

They’re both fairly uncommon but not unheard names of, like Jasper and Casper, or Nina and Lena.

We also have similar surnames like Brocklehurst and Hurst so not super matcy-matchy but similar.

So would you be surprised is a friend called their kid a very similar name to yours or would you not even think about it and I’m overthinking it because baby names seem a big thing to me at the moment?!

I wouldn't give it a second thought if a friend named thier baby something simular to mine. In fact one did (exactly the same name) and it didn't bother me.

Wouldn’t think about it

Definitely wouldn't worry about it all. Chances are it won't even cross their mind. And if it does it doesn't sound like something that would bother anyone!

Completely fine. No need for a chat. But if you really wanted you could mention in passing. In the olden days everyone was William or John and nobody got their knickers in a twist.

We had an Emma, Ella and an Emily in the same friendship group, all born around the same time. One person commented once on the similarity and I don't think anything happened after that.

I wouldn't consider those similar names, they just happen to rhyme. I thought you were going to say something like Benjamin and Ben!
