Need help!

We are due a little boy very soon and have whittled the name down to three:

Otis
Reid
Hugo

We have a girl called Lyra atm so like the more unique names, what do you prefer?

Lyra is on a steep upward trend, so won't be unique. The same goes for Hugo and Otis. Reid would be more unusuall but will be misspelt as Reed or Read

Of the three I only like Hugo

emmathedilemma · 03/03/2022 12:54

Lyra and Reid just merge into a mass of R's when you say it outloud. Reid and Lyra is even worse!
Hugo is the best of those 3 IMO.

Mochii · 03/03/2022 12:55

I love Hugo. Lyra is also a great name!

becca3210 · 03/03/2022 12:57

Hugo or Otis not keen on Reid

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 03/03/2022 13:03

Hugo is the only one I like

StopForAMinute · 03/03/2022 13:10

I like Hugo.

Eloise666 · 03/03/2022 13:11

Hugo has my vote. Otis I also like, but Hugo is the winner of three.

SweetNcrunchy · 03/03/2022 13:11

Hugo and Lyra go well together.

As an aside, why is it OK on MN to say "Posh and poncey" or "Upper class twit" and generally Posh-Bash but calling someone a chav causes mayhem!?

DameCelia · 03/03/2022 14:04

@SweetNcrunchy
Because if you are posh you are in a very privileged position and shouldn't be insulting those less privileged than you.
"Check your privilege"
Apparently
(I offer no views on this either way)

Personally I wouldn’t call anyone ‘posh and poncy’ or an ‘upper class twit’ because I think talking about people that way based on class is just gross.

However, there is a huge difference between a poster calling the name Hugo ‘posh/poncy’ and the absolute derision over simple names like Jackson, with posters piling on to nastily call it tacky/chavvy/cheap/naughty boy name etc etc etc. There’s a big difference between punching up and punching down.

Chelsea26 · 03/03/2022 14:13

I like Hugo, and you’ve just reminded me of an extremely handsome man who I sat next to in my seminar group at uni, in fact I sat between two very handsome men in that seminar group known respectively as Fit Dave and Sexy Hugo

Zillamop · 03/03/2022 14:23

Otis
Hugo
Reid

... in order of preference.

Reid is too surnamey and reminds me of Beryl Reid which may not be the vibe you were looking for

I don't think there's much difference. I've seen threads where posters show absolute derision over 'poncy' names!

Blubells · 03/03/2022 14:27

I only like Otis. Lovely name.

Barleysugar85 · 03/03/2022 14:32

We have a four year old Hugo. I do love the name but there are a lot of them around unfortunately, we often meet namesakes at soft plays and baby groups. As long as that doesn't bother you I think it's a decent solid name!

PatterPaws · 03/03/2022 14:34

Otis or Hugo.

Reid is a surname.

babyjellyfish · 03/03/2022 16:54

Hugo.

2022HereWeCome · 03/03/2022 16:58

Too many Otis's and Hugo's where I live and I really really don't like Reid. Are you set on another four-letter name to go with Lyra?

organicoatmilk · 08/03/2022 17:21

Otis or Reid.

I'd like to add that Lyra is a beautiful name! Great choice.

celestebellman · 08/03/2022 18:01

Otis is nice and goes well with Lyra

Hugo is quite nice too, though makes me think of a cuddly toy for some reason.

Reid is awful - makes me think of an American lawyer from a 1980s TV show.
