Help us complete our girl name

Hi everyone

DP and I would very much welcome your help in picking middle names for our daughter, if our baby due in Spring is a girl.

We have REALLY struggled to pick a girls name we both agree on due to different tastes/associations.

Eventually, I think we have decided on the name "Elle". DP really likes it and, whilst there are a couple of names I prefer (Elena; and Elodie - DP vetoed both) I have always liked the name "Elle" also.

We now need to pick middle names. My family always have two and it's a tradition I'm keen to carry on.

DP and I are both English but have Italian heritage. DP has connections to Wales.

Baby's surname will be three syllables, starting with "H" ending in "son".

The only middle name we are considering at the moment is actually one of my middle names; "Julietta" which, was my great grandmother's name. I've always really liked it and I think it would maybe balance out a one syllable first name. What do you all think? I'm not sure if it would work best in the first or second middle name spot.

It would be really great to get your ideas for the two middle names and whether you think one of them should be "Julietta".

Elle ? ? H*son

Elle Julietta ? H*son

Elle ? Julietta H*son

Thank you everyone, your help is so appreciated.

I LOVE Julietta. I think its position depends on the other middle name.

Eg Elle Julietta Ann Hson works better than Elle Ann Julietta Hson (flows better imo and avoids Elle Ann sounding like Ellen).

But Elle Roxanne Julietta Hson flows better for me than Elle Julietta Roxanne Hson.

On the whole I like Julietta first because it's meaningful to you and second middle name more likely to be dropped.

I think Sarah and Zara work.

Elle Elizabeth Julietta.

user1493494961 · 01/03/2022 22:19

Or Elle Julietta Elizabeth.

Skelligsfeathers · 01/03/2022 22:27

Are you pronouncing Elle like elle McPherson?

If so Elle Juiietta sounds like El Cid ....or El campeodor
Like you are making a declaration about Julietta

babynamelover · 01/03/2022 22:28

Elle Julietta is lovely.
Is there another family name you would like to use?

blameitonthecaffeine · 01/03/2022 22:47

Julietta is beautiful.

Elle Julietta Rhiannydd
Elle Julietta Angharad

To mix the Italian and Welsh heritage?

I have to admit that although I like both names that's exactly what I thought too. I think it'll be an issue for anything that follows Elle unfortunately.

Thank you so much for all the replies so far.

I agree, the order of the middle names will have to depend on which name sits alongside Julietta.

I'm so pleased Julietta is getting such a positive response. I was worried people may think it's too frilly. I love the nod to my Italian family.

Unfortunately there are no other female names in the family we like as a name from my DPs side would have been a great solution however, the available names are just too old fashioned and not to my taste (or his to be fair).

@blameitonthecaffeine I have been looking at Welsh options. I love "Eleri" and "Lowrie " but I'm not 100% sure I'm pronouncing them correctly and not sure if Eleri is too close to Elle. Any other Welsh suggestions welcome :). I do really like "Lowrie". Could this work I wonder?!?

Any other suggestions anyone?

@Nelliephant1 and @Skelligsfeathers I kind of see your point....hadn't considered it before. That said, surely that means any name wouldn't be able to follow Elle, so all Elle's couldn't have middle names.

Why is this naming thing so hard!!! I'm not dwelling on this too much as, as I said, DP and I have really really struggled to agree on this compromise name. But I do see your points :)

What about Eleri as a first name; then shorten it to Elle.

WeasilyPleased · 01/03/2022 23:19

I think Elle Julietta Lowrie H sounds lovely.

SherbertLemons · 01/03/2022 23:23

@24petlegs I don't think I could face going back on first names now with DP. It was a hard road to get here lol! Plus I'm
Not sure I pronounce Eleri 100% correctly as a non welsh speaker; probably well enough to use it as a middle name with practice....maybe

@WeasilyPleased I like it too, although it would probably help if I spelt it correctly! I think it's actually spelt "Lowri"

Elle is nice but 1 syllable names can be hard because of the flow.

So, while Elle will prob sound nice with your surname (thinking along the sound of Elle McPherson sp) so I perhaps wouldn't worry too much about the rhythm of the full name if you like the names.

Elle Julietta Delilah H...son would work in terms of the rhythm

blameitonthecaffeine · 02/03/2022 04:26

I think Elle Julietta Lowrie is great.

Eleri is too close to Elle, I think.

DoodleBelle · 02/03/2022 04:41

Love Julietta! I think Elle Julietta 1 syllable H…son sounds well balanced so I would go for a 1 syllable extra middle name. I know it’s very popular but I think May would be a lovely choice. Elle Julietta May H…son.

PinkSyCo · 02/03/2022 04:54

Elle Julietta Rose Harrison.

LostInTheColonies · 02/03/2022 05:31

Eleri Julietta flows much better than Elle (sorry - I know you prefer just Elle). Then, as pp have suggested, call her Elle.

Elle Macpherson is Eleanor IIRC.

wishtotravel · 02/03/2022 05:49

Sorry OP but in my opinion any second name after Elle, not Elena or similar, sounds forced and reminds me of el in Spanish, think El Salvador as an example

Woollystockings · 02/03/2022 06:03

Is Julietta from your Italian heritage? Surely it would be Giulietta. I think Elle is fine as a first name. The name will be Elle H… on a daily basis.

delshell · 02/03/2022 06:25

Love Eleri and Lowri. Some other Welsh names that (IMO!) have a similar vibe and which I love are:

Eira
Mari
Anwen
Manon

I'm sure you already know this but Lowri is pronounced Lo-ree.

I have to say my first instinct was that Elle reminded me of Spanish el too. But if, like most people, your daughter is 99% of the time only being called by her first name I don't think it's really a problem.
