Please help! These Indian names are based on family suggestions so just want to see what your opinions are & also which one do you prefer?

Yashika as I love names beginning with y.
I have never heard either name - where are they from and how do you say them?

Applecherrypie · 26/02/2022 13:14

@SeanChailleach

The “a” sound in Yash has the the “u” sound in brush for example and then the “i” in -ika is like “i” sounds in indigo.

They are both Indian names derived from Sanskrit

Aarohi is like the long “a” sound in car and then a short “o” sound and then hee at the end.
Aa-ro-hee

Not Indian so not sure if my vote counts but Aarohi for me. Sounds beautiful.

Talipesmum · 26/02/2022 13:25

Both lovely! I prefer Yashika.

Ghastlyghoul · 26/02/2022 13:30

Yashika for me. Not come across it before but it sounds lovely, is easy to spell and pronounce. Beautiful. I’m old but my first thought was the Yashica camera that my brother was desperate for . It was a Japanese brand.

SkyrocketAway · 26/02/2022 13:33

Yashika is beautiful.

RaininSummer · 26/02/2022 13:38

Both gorgeous. I think Yashika is easy for people to get right in the UK.

ofwarren · 26/02/2022 13:38

Yashika is my favourite of the 2

CharacterForming · 26/02/2022 13:44

Both lovely but I think Yashika will be easier to use day to day in the UK (although a lot of people's first stab at pronunciation won't be correct - I imagine you'll get a lot of Ya-Shee-Ka but that's not the end of the world).

Frazzled2207 · 26/02/2022 13:50

Like both but Yashika will cause less spelling and pronunciation issues, if that is important to you

KirstenBlest · 26/02/2022 13:56

Not indian but live in a multicultural area. Not familiar with these names and although both look nice, Aarohi looks a bit unisex and I'd probably have said Yashika as Yash-eek-a

Classica · 26/02/2022 13:58

I like Yashika best. It has a lot of pizazz.

demoness · 26/02/2022 15:56

I've never encountered these names before but I think they're both beautiful! I slightly prefer Yashika.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/02/2022 16:00

Correctly guessed the pronunciation of Aarohi, but not of Yashika, if that makes any difference.

user1493494961 · 26/02/2022 16:03

I've heard nicer Indian names.

Madbadandusuallysad · 26/02/2022 16:14

Aarohi, is absolutely beautiful. I heard of it in one of the Indian serials my MIL loves watching. And it's not too hard to pronounce.

NaerDoWell · 26/02/2022 16:26

Lovely names, I prefer Yashika.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/02/2022 10:17

Exactly this.
seekinglondonlife · 27/02/2022 10:23

I prefer Aarohi. Yashika sounds very Japanese to me.

Applecherrypie · 27/02/2022 12:24

@seekinglondonlife this is exactly what I’ve been battling with, Aarohi sounds more Indian to me.
