Trying to think of a name for third DC if she is a girl. Any ideas?
(I have actually changed DC2 name in the title so it's less outing/googleable but it's very similar)
I don't really want another Irish name, but I also don't want her name to be completely out of place. My favourite Irish girls names are either tricky to spell in the UK (Aoife, Saoirse, Fiadh) or just don't go with surname so I feel I've exhausted them all and I don't want to choose one for the sake of it.
Any suggestions or opinions on the below?
We like
Thea
Esme
Autumn
Aeryn
Amber
Primrose
Posy
Alana

Not sure if any of them are quite right though. Ideas welcome!

Well, you know I like Clara :) lol

Out of your list I like Thea, Esme, Posy and Alanna is an Irish name with a lovely meaning.

What about:
Sarah - I think it's v pretty and underused these days my nieces name
Jessie
Maeve
Rosemary
Miriam
Fionnuala - One of my fav's but DH has veto'd and we are Irish in Ireland so prob not for UK.

BlueChampagne · 23/02/2022 10:41

I like Alana, Amber and Thea. I fear Aeryn will be mispelt Erin a lot, but I think Erin is a nice name too.

Fiona
Clea
Tamsin
Meredith

midsomermurderess · 23/02/2022 12:04

Post is cute. You could go for Josephine and that could be a nickname. Or Catriona.

AnonymousArmadillo · 23/02/2022 12:16

I have an Aoife and people have been mostly ok with the spelling and pronunciation.

Of your other choices, I’d go for Thea or Esme.

emmathedilemma · 23/02/2022 13:38

ooh i think they're all quite different to the vibe of your boys names.
I would have gone down the lines of Niamh, Mary, Orla......

bameliex · 23/02/2022 14:02

Thea and Esme are lovely.

Maeve/Maeva
Evanna
Elise
Freya
Erin
Mirren

Jacketandbeans · 23/02/2022 14:04

@emmathedilemma this is the dilemma we are having. Do we choose a name that has a similar vibe or one we really like. Orla and Niamh don't go with our surname and not keen on Mary.
Alana is probably the closest we have to a name that is both Irish and also we both like it.
It's really tricky.

I've always loved Maeve.

yourestandingonmyneck · 23/02/2022 15:11

Clare, Sarah, Fiona, Nancy?

Exhausted18 · 23/02/2022 15:51

I like Esme and Thea best of your list! Although they are a different feel to your boys' names. I think Aoife would be lovely too, not overly hard to pronounce/spell.

How about:

Isla
Tara
Cara
Clodagh
Shona
Darcie

Mumofgirls2017 · 23/02/2022 16:38

Alana and Thea go well

How about

Erin
Niamh
Orla
Nora
Tara
Annie
Cara
Eleanor
Molly
Eva
Isla
Ella
Sophie
Summer
Sienna
Sadie
Lydia
Abigail

RavenclawsRoar · 23/02/2022 16:44

Love Autumn and Posy! I'm a teacher in England and Aoife is certainly not unheard of: I've taught a few. If you love it, go for it.

MrsSHudson · 23/02/2022 16:48

Erin

Chelsea26 · 23/02/2022 16:56

Millie
Cora
Skye

FolkSongSweet · 23/02/2022 17:50

I’d go with a fairly traditional English name that would have been common in Ireland - so Anne (Annie is cute), Mary, Kitty, Molly, Nell, or maybe Nora?

urbanbuddha · 23/02/2022 18:04

I like Esmé, Thea and Alanna.

Sasha?

Jacketandbeans · 23/02/2022 20:42

There's a few here that I like. Aoife is beautiful but I've had so many issues with people pronouncing my second DS name wrong that it really puts me off. Even people who had met him and heard his name a few times would pronounce it wrong and it really affected me in his first year. I swore I'd go for something easy this time.

I like Kitty and Nell but a bit too nicknamey and not keen on the long versions.
Skye is lovely but does it sound out of place? Summer is one of my fave girls names but it's taken by a friend, but we still like Autumn as an alternative.

Niamh and Maeve don't sound good with our surname which is one syllable and starts with F. They merge into it. I'd also rather avoid C or R names, so Ciara and Cara are out.

urbanbuddha · 23/02/2022 20:47

I forgot Skye. It's lovely and I don't think it sounds out of place. The kids names don't have to be all matchy-matchy. They'll grow up and go out in the world on their own one day.

Or if you aren’t totally anti Irish names
Oona
Tara
Caitlin

Thea - ok
Esme - like but so many of them
Autumn - faddy
Aeryn - quite like this, though is same as Erin
Amber - too 70s
Primrose - I hate it, so wet
Posy - too wet as a full name ok as a little girl nn for Rose etc
Alana - ok

Jacketandbeans · 23/02/2022 23:31

Oooo Nessa! That's gone down well. Is that an Irish name? It's hard to tell when googling. My DH seems to think it's a common name over there? Nessie is cute.

OP posts:
Chicaontour · 23/02/2022 23:34

How about Cara? Love that it's phonetic and means friend in irish and Italian, Orla . Ps love Alana coming from "a leanbh " the baby

mathanxiety · 24/02/2022 02:32

Yes, Nessa is Irish.

It can be spelled Neasa, which is more of a N'yassa pronunciation.

I knew three girls named Nessa growing up in Dublin, and it was on my Dcousin's list when she was pg with what turned out to be her DS five years ago.

Another name along those lines is Alvy (Irish Ailbhe) - again, I knew some as a child (60s' 70s) in Ireland.
