Azur for a baby boy?

Hi everyone!
What do you think of the name Azur for a baby boy? Without an E. It's the Arabic/Persian spelling of Azure and it both means sky blue and Gold is help

Do you have Arabic heritage?

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 22:00

If you have some Arabic heritage, ok I guess (I suppose it’s a bit like calling your child blue? but people won’t realise that)

If you don’t I think it’s a bit random and unless people know the colour they may struggle with pronouncing it.

RosieCockle · 19/02/2022 22:06

Try hard and cringey.

Shainago · 19/02/2022 22:23

Thank you for your opinions. Yes I'm Arab.
Do you think Azhar would sound better?

I like it but prefer Azhar which sounds very elegant.

Noted, thank you

I really like the name Azur. That’s the name of my friend’s son. She says it’s a Hebrew name meaning ‘help’. I think it’s lovely, and prefer it to azhar.

Lockdownbear · 20/02/2022 01:27

Is it actually a name or just the colour?
I'd think most people will have come across the colour at some point, Denby have had an Azure dinner set for years and I'm sure I've came across it on paint charts too

Starryskiesinthesky · 20/02/2022 01:27

Sounds lovely

AdriannaP · 20/02/2022 01:35

Azur reminds me of azzurro - Italian for blue and the football team is called azzurri. I think Azhar is more beautiful and elegant.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 20/02/2022 01:39

How is Azhar pronounced?
It looks great, but I'm not sure how it's said.

@RosieCockle

Try hard and cringey.
What a knobby comment.

'if it's not Harry, it's try hard and cringeyyyyyyyyyyy'

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 20/02/2022 03:41

@RosieCockle

Try hard and cringey.
It's try hard and cringy to use a name from a different culture when you belong to that culture?? Should everyone in the U.K. use English names regardless of their background so as not to be try hard??? Actually it would be more try hard if Arab boys were called Harry and James tbh.

OP I prefer Azhar. It's more masculine than Azur.

daretodenim · 20/02/2022 05:05

Are you Arabic or Persian though? Azhar (Al-Azhar) is the name of one of the main mosque/Islamic university in Egypt. Historically it's a big part of Islamic culture in the Mediterranean "Arab" world. So it's go strong religious connotations to me - and no doubt many other (but possibly not all?) Muslims.

For Azur, I'd pronounce it Az-oor.
But you'd also have Az-you-r.
And Az-uhr.
That last one is similar to Azar (ohh-zaar), which is a Persian girls' name.

Don't dislike the name, but maybe not as straightforward as it would be with the e on the end!

TrashyPanda · 20/02/2022 16:42

I think it’s gorgeous

astoundedgoat · 20/02/2022 16:44

I like it a lot. I like Azhar too. Probably I'd lean slight more Azur, but I'm not Arab, so have less insight.

Shainago · 20/02/2022 18:38

Thank you!

Yes im Arab, and it's pronounced Az-Iur (u as in human)

I really like Azur. Like the meaning as well. Good choice.

Shainago · 20/02/2022 18:41

Thank you very much x

No I prefer Azur

Azhar is sharper and more aggressive

Noted. Thank you x
