Current top runners for boys. Which do you prefer? Thanks.

Proud owner of a Freddie, but always loved Charlie too. I would say there are less Charlies around, so it depends if you’re bothered about popularity. Also, depends on your surname and which sounds best I think

RubyRedRoses · 19/02/2022 16:54

Freddie

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2022 16:55

Of the two, Charlie. Being old fashioned I'd want the more dignified Charles on the bc as I'm not a fan of diminutives as standalone names.

Definitely not Freddie, even if short for Frederick. It's such an unattractive name to me (sorry)

Gruffalogrinch · 19/02/2022 17:08

Neither.

Joystir59 · 19/02/2022 17:17

Freddie every time

Jeschara · 19/02/2022 17:28

Charlie

bdd2017 · 19/02/2022 17:32

Charlie

Orphlids · 19/02/2022 18:11

Charles is fabulous, as is Frederick. Charlie and Freddie are both so common, and don’t hold much weight, I don’t think.

Primrosecottage · 19/02/2022 18:27

Both extremely popular names, much of a muchness like Archie, Teddy etc. I agree with PP that Charles is nice.

Bingo

Charlie

loulou2021 · 19/02/2022 18:38

Really like both but prefer Freddie

InThePresenceOfWeevil · 19/02/2022 18:50

Will Freddie still be happy with Freddie when he's 30....?

SazCat · 19/02/2022 18:53

I'd use Frederick then shorten to Freddie

maybein2022 · 19/02/2022 21:37

Thank you. A fairly even split then! I do see the point about Freddie as an adult, but I don’t really like Frederick, so maybe that’s out. I don’t think DH is that keen on Charlie anyway, they were my two front runners and he did like Freddie.

Back to the drawing board I guess… we’ll find out the sex in a few weeks. We may still go with just Freddie if it’s a boy, but I do understand the need for a more ‘grown up’ name for when he’s older!

Either! Bother are lovely names!

ofwarren · 19/02/2022 21:52

They are both a bit boring and done to death to be honest.
If I had to choose one, I'd choose Freddie.

idiotmagnet · 19/02/2022 21:56

Both great, but Freddie at a pinch.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 21:56

They are both fine, super popular. I’ll say Freddie just because a friend has a Charlie and she says she’s starting to think it’s a naughty boys name judging by the kids in his class 🤷‍♀️

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 21:57

You could always go for Alfred as a full name?

I really wouldn't worry about that. So many kids have abbreviated names now - there'll be loads of 40 yr old Freddies, Archies etc. My son has an -y name that was deemed too childish at the time by many, but he's late teens now and everyone loves his name and so does he.
FuggyPidding · 19/02/2022 22:00

I like Freddie.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/02/2022 22:01

My DGF was Frank, but was always known as Fred...

Ashara · 19/02/2022 22:09

Charlie

Smartiepants79 · 19/02/2022 22:16

I really like them both.
Freddie is fine as an adult - Freddie Mercury? Freddie Flintoff?
