Boys Name Help: Which way round?

sunshinesandybeachclearbluesea · 18/02/2022 20:28

Hi all,
I have a son called Noah.
Expecting another baby. Unsure of sex. Decided on Matilda "Tilly" Grace for a girl.
For a boy I really like the name Jacob. Struggled to find a middle name to go with Jacob. I kept coming back to Oscar, a name which I also loved before I had Noah. I'm really happy with both Jacob and Oscar and they are definitely "the ones".
However, I can't decide which was round sounds better:
Oscar Jacob or Jacob Oscar.
I think I'm leaning slightly towards Oscar Jacob.
Looking for some others opinions as to which way round looks and sounds best?
Thanks.

Jacob Oscar

Think more about what you want him to be called - which will most likely be the name which comes first. The middle name will most likely be unknown to 99% of the people in his future life. If you like Oscar best, go with Oscar Jacob

bloominglovelyorange · 18/02/2022 20:47

Both ways round are lovely

sunshinesandybeachclearbluesea · 18/02/2022 21:15

@DogsAndGin I love them both equally. Also with my older son, about 75% of the time I do call him by his first and middle name. I very much feel like there isn't any point having a middle name if your not going to use it, so I make a point of using it. He also refers to himself by his first and middle Name too. I will do the same for this baby. Hope that makes sense.

Both names are lovely but think Oscar Jacob works better .....
Every Oscar i know has been lovely and would have used if worked better with my surname....

MaizeAmaze · 18/02/2022 21:25

I prefer Oscar Jacob.
Does your surname make a word with JO? Might that influence your choice?

Spiderinthedownstairsloo · 18/02/2022 21:27

I’m going to be very unhelpful here but they both sound lovely, I can see why you’re having trouble!

Arewethebadguys · 18/02/2022 21:29

Jacob Oscar. Makes more sense with Noah and Jacob both being biblical names. And it sounds better that way round.

Workin8til6 · 18/02/2022 21:36

Noah and Jacob are lovely.

Crunchysnap · 19/02/2022 05:26

Jacob Oscar.

Because I knew an Oliver Jacob and he went by OJ as a nickname and I just never liked it.

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 19/02/2022 07:06

Do you like Jake as a nn? You may not use it but school friends will!
And as a pp said - what initial does your surname start with? Does JO - surname spell anything?

You have 2 lovely options. Wait until the baby is born and decide when you meet him/her.

PurpleMoon12 · 19/02/2022 07:44

Jacob is more 'in' and would probably fit better at school. It would probably be shortened to jake. I prefer Jacob as a first name

Mumofgirls2017 · 19/02/2022 08:30

Oscar Jacob sounds better, but
If you prefer Jacob as first I’d go for that as middle name not said together that often. Jacob Oscar is fine too

mugoftea456 · 19/02/2022 08:44

OJ for short !

sageandbasil · 19/02/2022 10:15

I prefer Oscar Jacob.. I also prefer Oscar as a first name.... why don't you wait and see what he looks like? We had 2 names for both and I knew what she looked like straight away x

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2022 20:54

Oscar Jacob, but it depends which way round sounds best with the surname.
