Apparently in France the registrars have quite a strict set of criteria for baby names and this list has been published as names rejected by them in 2021...

Some of them seem quite innocuous to me after hanging out on this board! No Balonz, sadly . I do wonder about whoever tried to register their child under the French version of 'SpongeBob SquarePants'....

The main surprise for me was that I actually think Anomalie for a girl is quite pretty Thank god this pregnancy is a DS or DH might have been overruling me!

I don't think Fleur de Marie is a euphemism. It just wasn't on the registrar's "calendar" (a calendar of saints names maybe?)

On another site I read that Fleur de Marie means virginity.

Don't see anything banworthy about Fraise? Is it not common to use flowers, fruits, plants etc as names in other languages?

Anyone who tries to call their child Anal should have a visit from social services! Normally I'm not in favour of state interference in peoples personal lives but that list shows how fucking stupid some people are. I wouldn't trust them to water a plant, let alone name a child!

Equally, I'm pleased for the child that they weren't allowed to be called that.

I'm a fan of naming laws. Some parents don't think beyond the little baby they are naming, and think to them being a school child, a teenager, an adult, and giving them a name that would be appropriate for all those stages.

I quite like Titeuf for a cat. Not that I plan on having cats.

Don’t think we really have similar rules in the U.K.? Something about no numbers allowed and the registrar can make a decision over stuff they deem offensive? I know someone called KT. Bet they wouldn’t allow similar in France!

My friend intended to call her baby daughter Carrie, after her grandmother. Firmly rejected by the registrar as it means tooth decay. Did allow it as a middle name.

I think it's a bit cruel to call your kid Anomalie (Anomaly in English).
Desegual is possibly a bit close to Desigual, the designer brand, which also means unequal in Spanish....

What if you wanted to call your child a traditional Chinese name (because you are Chinese) or a traditional Norwegian name (because you are Norwegian) etc?

Could MJ be because Mary Jane is slang for marijuana? Probably not, but who knows.

Titeuf is a comic / cartoon character, which is obviously why it was rejected. Seems to have lots of attitude, perhaps a bit like Horrid Henry.

In French or English? In English caries means tooth decay. Carrie is a perfectly normal name.

They were living in France, she is English, he is French.

Well it all seems very high and mighty from a country that thinks Fanny is an a-okay name for a girl.
