Hi, so I'm expecting a girl and I wanted a few opinions on some names because I am literally so indecisive. If you have any more unique, feminine girls names that are a similar vibe to mine please send me them :)
Rosa

Peggy
Nora
Adie
Dolly
Dora
Effie
Avie
Dottie

Let me know :))))

I like Aoife, with view to shortening to Effie/Effy
Inaaya/Anaya is another one (or two!)

Rosa - like it. Strong, simple, feminine
Reenie - not keen. Unpleasant sound to me and doesn't seem like a name in its own right (though not sure what it would be short for)
Marnie - not overly keen but nothing against it
Margot - dislike. I don't like the sound at all.
Peggy - not keen. I think this has a slightly ugly sound too.
Nora - I can't take this one out of old lady territory.
Adie - not keen but really like Ada.
Dolly - cute as a nickname for Dorothy but not as a standalone.
Dora - quite like it. Don't know why when I think of Nora as old lady but Dora seems cooler somehow.
Effie - love it! Possibly more of a nickname (Elizabeth?) but I think it works on its own.
Avie - not keen but like Ava
Dottie - not keen. It's like you're calling your child crazy.
Winnie - dislike. Mostly because I don't like Winifred but also because it sounds like a horse.
Ira - I thought this was a boys' name to be honest?
Olive - really dislike this for some reason.
Rose - like it. Very classy and not too common as a first name.
Remy - really like it.
Lottie - not keen as a standalone. Love Charlotte.
Marlow/Marlowe - quite like it. Different. Modern.
Iris - love it.
Primrose/Prim - quite like Primrose. Not Prim.
Orla - not keen.

From your list, my top three would be Effie, Iris and Remy.

Love Rosa, Anna, Faye, Jasmine and Eve (not Evie or Eva).

NuffSaidSam · 17/02/2022 01:05

Rosa - nice, not overused,
Reenie - very old lady and not in a chic way. Short for Irene.
Marnie - lovely, but too popular now for me.
Margot - lovely, classic, underused.
Peggy - not my taste, old lady name.
Nora - lovely
Adie - nice, but I wouldn't use as a stand alone name.
Dolly - not to my taste
Dora - the explorer?
Effie - sweet
Avie - not keen, looks likes you've been confused by Ava and Evie.
Dottie - sweet as a nickname
Winnie - not to my taste
Ira - is a boy's name.
Olive - sweet, but a bit overused
Rose - ok, bit Rosa is nicer.
Remy - also a boy's name?
Lottie - I hate this name, for no good reason, it's fine.
Marlow/Marlowe - not keen
Iris - not to my taste
Primrose/Prim - too flowery
Orla - nice

I'd got for Margot or Nora

AuntTwacky · 17/02/2022 01:11

Rosa, Anna, Anya, Romy

groovergirl · 17/02/2022 03:51

A lot of these names make me think of the sad elderly neighbours of my childhood. They'd limp home from the shop then sit alone and forlorn at their window, nursing a cuppa and watching the children play in the street ... you get the vibe.

However, some are nn for names worth reviving, if you like them:

Irene
Maureen
Dorothea
Dorinda
Adeline
Adelaide
Euphemia (Effie)
Carlotta
Winifred or Guinevere (Winnie)
Rosemary
Margaret or Marguerite (Peggy)

My favourite from your list is Nora, as it was my DM's name. It has a certain 1930s chic.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 17/02/2022 05:17

I like Rosa, Marnie, Iris and Orla

How about:
Colette
Darcy
Nancy
Edith

You're right at the vanguard of the the early 20th Century revival with some of these OP!

I like some of them, but mainly only if you use the full name.

Reenie is downtrodden, but Irene (with 3 syllables) is definitely due a revival. Peggy and Marnie I do think are sweet nns, but I think do need the full names Margaret/Margarite and Marina...

Other names you might like - Stella, Zelda, Polly, Pearl, Emerald, Lois,

Rosa - lovely but a lot of them. Rosanna more unusual.

Reenie - not as is, but Irene due a come back
Marnie - nice, but best as a nn for Marina
Margot - nice but uber popular
Peggy - sweet but only as a nn for Margaret/Margarite
Nora - getting quite popular. I just don't like it. Honor instead?
Adie - It's a bit charmless, but Adela/Adelaide/Adeline - all nice.
Dolly - It's too wet. Even as a nn.
Dora - Nice, not overused right now.
Effie - it's too nicknamey, and the full form Euphemia is A Lot.
Avie - no, the world does not need another version of Eve/Ava etc
Dottie - as a nn for Dorothy/Dorothea, not alone. Prefer Dorey though.
Winnie - It's OK as a nn for Winifred, but a bit bleak.
Ira - It's a man's name. Do you mean Ida?

Olive - only in a salad. Mysteriously popular. How about Oona?
Rose - as for Rosa
Remy - It's a man's name. Do you mean Romy? - it's OK but blah.

Lottie - too babyish as a full name. OK as nn for the v popular Charlotte
Marlow/Marlowe - no, it's a town in essex
Iris - Lovely but uber popular. Lois or Ines instead?
Primrose/Prim - awful, so wet.

Orla - Ok, prefer Oona or Honor

FayCarew · 17/02/2022 13:53

Rosa - ok
Reenie - granny name usually spelt Renee
Marnie - Hitchcock film
Margot - Maggot
Peggy - Hi-de-Hi
Nora - wrinkly stockings
Adie - Sadie is ok but Adey is usually a man called Adrian
Dolly - ok, sibling for Teddy?
Dora - Explorer
Effie - awful
Avie - awful
Dottie - like it short for Dorothy
Winnie - ok
Ira - Gershwin
Olive - frumpy
Rose - nice but dull
Remy - no
Lottie - ok
Marlow/Marlowe - nice town, good playwright, not a girl's name
Iris - not keen but nothing wrong with it
Primrose/Prim - too prim
Orla - meh in british accent

Ajl46 · 17/02/2022 16:07

For me, quite a few of the names listed would suit a little girl but not a woman. I can't imagine it would be easy to chair a meeting if I were called Dolly for example. Could you pick a name which would lend itself to nicknames which would work for different phases of your daughter's life? So for example, Elizabeth could be Lizzie/Bethy as a child, then Beth as a teenager, then Elizabeth as an adult.
