Baby name MIMI

After some honest opinions. I love the name Mimi, my husband likes it but as a nickname. I plan on calling her Mimi from day one, so is there any point giving her a different full name if that isn’t what she’s known by? Obviously both my husband and I do have to agree when it comes to names, so we are both after some outside input from people that won’t sugar coat the truth, so as not to upset us. Grin the only name I like that we could use to get Mimi as a nickname is Amelia. Any other suggestions welcome.
We are expecting our 3rd girl. Our daughters names are Hannah and Louisa.

Love Jemima, also so think Amelie rather than Amelia could work. I much prefer Amelie to Amelia personally

TatianaBis · 13/02/2022 12:52

The Mimi I know is Imogen.

TatianaBis · 13/02/2022 12:54

@Livvielo

I’ve just suggested Jemima to my husband and he loves it! Can’t believe we didn’t think of it. Do you think Hannah, Louisa and Jemima ‘go’ together? (Not that it’s a deal breaker!)
Yes I think it goes well.

It's dire Like from a 1940's cheesey film about a showgirl. Dreadful.

Chakraleaf · 13/02/2022 12:56

I don't like Amelia either.

I know Mimi as nickname to:
Annemarie
Jemima

My friend Mimi is really called Miriam and I don’t know anyone that calls her by actual name.

Her sisters are Persephone - ‘Percy’ and Lorelai - ‘Rory’

If my sisters had elegant names like Hannah and Louisa, I’d be seriously pissed to be called Mimi as a full name. It’s cute but it’s also cutsy, she does need something more grown up for best -

Cosima
Marina
Marianne / Mariana
Jemima is lovely too -

Ooh, and Naomi! Like a PP said.

I really think I'd feel sorry for a baby Amelia, who had siblings named Hannah and Louisa. Hannah and Louisa are uncommon and strong and classy whereas Amelia is so common to the point of being horribly boring these days, it has a weak, nasally sound, and it would be almost like she's being named carelessly in comparison to Hannah and Louisa! (Which are interesting and lovely choices, whereas every second child under 10 is an Amelia these days). I also think Mimi isn't a natural nickname for Amelia - most Amelias I know either go by the full name or 'Milly'.

Jemima, Miriam, and Naomi are both perfect with the other sibling names as they're also strong and classic and biblical and timeless unlike Amelia.

Please choose Jemima, Miriam or Naomi! (I am so emotionally invested in this for some reason 😂 I think because I love sibling names Hannah and Louisa!)

I agree that Amelia is super popular, but as for mimi not being a ‘natural nickname’ it hardly makes a more natural nickname for Jemima. The sound of mimi isn’t even in jemima, whereas it’s actually there in Amelia. Milly is much less natural to me for Amelia!

My daughter is Imogen and we call her Mimi!

RockinHorseShit · 03/03/2022 18:57

I know a clever & beautiful 22 yo Mimi who was christened Mimosa

DisforDarkChocolate · 03/03/2022 19:03

It's a nickname for Miranda.

Mimi is a child's name.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/03/2022 19:07

My GGM was known as Mimi, because her initials were MIM. Does your surname begin with M?

Bluebellbasket · 03/03/2022 19:17

I have a Clementine who called herself Mimi when she started talking! I assume it’s her version of ‘Clemmie’ but it suits her so we have started to use it too!
