Naming baby same name as a cousin?

just wondering what people’s thoughts are on naming your baby after your cousin? It’s my second cousin but is more like a first as he’s the same age as me. My mums siblings were much older than her so it worked out he’s more like my first cousin!

Don't talk to them about names. I named my daughter the same name as a second cousin and cousin's wife. To be honest it didn't really cross my mind that I was using their name as it's a classic name and the one I saw most used a nickname. I deliberately avoided the names of my own cousins, siblings, and their children. When you are in a large family a bit of crossover is inevitable.

My cousin gave her daughter my name so as in your situation, first cousins once removed. I do remember my cousin ringing to run it past my mother though.

I always tell people to not tell anyone their name choices, it just causes unnecessary crap.

That is what my xmil wanted!! she thought she could control me ''subtly'

Whenever I told her a name she said ''you have to think of the child though'' as though the name I'd suggested was Diesel or Montgomery or something. The names I was suggesting were normal names but perhaps not in the top 100.

She wanted me to give my son the name of the man she'd left her husband (my x's father for ) I found that funny, that she thought there was a chance I could be ''subtly'' manipulated in to that!

You can call your baby any name of your choosing. Nobody owns a name and if they are are offended so what?
Most people would probably flattered actually, I know I would but nobody would give a baby such a boring old fashioned name🤣
