Is it too common now?

Vastly. Sorry, because it's a nice name...

GeneLovesJezebel · 31/01/2022 21:06

It’s a lovely name.

Undertheoldlindentree · 31/01/2022 21:09

The potential for typos as Elise would put me off.

Oli5 · 31/01/2022 21:19

I don’t think so ! I love Elspeth!! I don’t know any Elsies and I have school age children

Wildrobin · 31/01/2022 21:21

I don’t know any ! I know one Elsa and love that

meetmeinmontauk30 · 31/01/2022 21:22

I loved this name! I'm a teacher and I've only had one come through school that I know of.

ISmellBurnings · 31/01/2022 21:24

Very, where I am. Not keen on it to be honest.

KohlaParasaurus · 31/01/2022 21:26

Has it become popular again? The youngest Elsie I know of is a cousin of mine who'll be in her mid-sixties now, and in her case it's short for Elizabeth.

GuidingSpirit · 31/01/2022 21:31

It is very popular at the minute. I love it as it was my grandma's name, but sadly it didn't work with our surname. If you love it a lot though, i don't think it being popular really matters. It doesnt stop Olivia / Isabella being top every year!

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/01/2022 22:41

It’s very popular. Maybe go for Elizabeth nn Elsie then she has plenty of options. It’s very sweet, but probably too sweet for some adults.

Alcoholfree1 · 01/02/2022 11:37

Thats true thanks
I do love it
We have a tricky surname to match names up - o’shaughnessy
Does it flow?

I think it is a beautiful name. My Great Gran Aunt was called Elsie and she was a lovely lady, lived til well into her 90s! Is it popular again? I haven't seen any baby announcements with it.

Elsie O'Shaughnessy sounds good to me.

Blubells · 01/02/2022 14:54

Elsie is overused and twee imo.

DramaAlpaca · 01/02/2022 15:00

I've never met a young one. Sorry, but to me it's one of those unfortunate names which manages to be cutesy and dowdy at the same time. But it's not that popular, so if you like it go for it. It doesn't go great with the surname though, the similar endings make it sound a bit twee.

Pbjontoast · 01/02/2022 15:02

This was my grandma's name. If I had another girl I'd name her Elsie 🥰

merryhouse · 01/02/2022 15:03

Blimey, this is ridiculous. A few years ago people would have told you that Elsie was an old-lady name and you were setting the poor kid up for a terrible childhood.

(Perhaps even the very same people now declaring that you can't possibly give a child a name they already know three of)

I have one son (22) with a perfectly normal name that in the under-25s is relatively rare, though in my early life I knew several bearers wherever I went.

My other son (18) has a perfectly normal name which was then massively and still is relatively popular, though in my earlier life I knew few and it was considered a bit (whisper it) Oddly Posh.

Neither has ever had an issue with their name. Both have been shortened on occasion (teachers would always ask S1 what he preferred and he'd shrug; friends as and when it occurred to them).

If you like a name, use it. (unless it's Margot or Imogen. I Have Views)

catinboots123 · 01/02/2022 15:21

Awful

Blubells · 01/02/2022 15:34

it's one of those unfortunate names which manages to be cutesy and dowdy at the same time.

Yes that's my opinion too.

harriet465 · 02/02/2022 09:51

It is incredibly popular where I am, a lovely name though

pumpkinpie01 · 02/02/2022 10:04

I much prefer turning it around and having Elise - not too popular but not too unusual either .

KirstenBlest · 02/02/2022 10:12

Very popular. Agree with Sorry, but to me it's one of those unfortunate names which manages to be cutesy and dowdy at the same time.

Fivebeanchilli · 02/02/2022 10:18

I think it's gorgeous and fits well with your sn. It's popular round here (though not as popular as Elise which is much less pretty in my view).
I would use it as the shortened version of Elspeth personally.

lunar1 · 02/02/2022 10:46

It's beautiful with your surname.

SkatingMumofthree · 06/02/2022 19:31

I have an 8 year old Elsie and am always complimented on it

Pregnant02 · 07/02/2022 10:38

I know of 3 Elsie’s under the age of 6 and a friend is planning to name her baby Elsie when she is born soon. It’s definitely a popular name at the moment!
