Urgent Indian English baby boy name

I'm due to go into labour any day now and have my induction booked, however my DH and I still cannot agree a name.

We are expecting a baby boy.

My husband is Indian (Hindu) and I am white/English. We are wanting an Indian boys name that works in the UK - something easy to spell/pronounce, but I just don't like any of the names!

The only one I like is Rohan, however it seems to be the only one DH doesn't like...

We both sort of like Arian, but we already have a daughter called Ariya and its too similar.... Please help!

Me and my husband couldn’t decide, I really loved Dinesh which my husband wasn’t overly keen on but after I gave birth he said it was up to me 🤣 we now have a Dinesh.

I know quite a few Dylans/Dillon. Plus some derivative type names such as Ronak/Ronnie, Nikhil/Nik.

Iamthedom · 30/01/2022 08:59

My Indian neighbours little boy is called Adam

I was in the same situation as you. We chose Dilan (pounced Dylan). I also really liked Jay and Samir or Samudra shorted to Sam.

I thought Rishi straight off when I read your title, cos it sounds a bit like rushy, Dunnit? Story for the kid right there. Grin

My husbands favourite is Aditya... With Adi for short... What do you think? I think the spelling bothers me... Maybe change it to how it sounds more? Maybe Aditaire???

I love Aditya/Aditya.

I wouldn't change the spelling personally. Aditaire just looks odd and it isn't really a better representation of how it sounds so I don't know why you would..Confused

Hercisback · 31/01/2022 06:22

Rayhaan
Devan
Dilan
Rahul

After I wrote Aditaire out it did look weird... I was worried people would see Aditya and not know how to pronounce it... Especially people not familiar with Indian names...

People mangle all sorts of unfamiliar names tbh, even when they are actually quite straightforward to read. My surname is a good example of this - it is said exactly as it is spelt, but people make all sorts of random changes to it, adding in letters, changing the order of letters, changing the first letter etc. I have no idea why!

My point is that some people will make a hash of any name that isn't obviously British. It's shit but I think you just have to accept that if you choose a name from another culture. I don't think Aditya is particularly difficult for people to pronounce, and with Adi, even less so.

I find Aditya easy to pronounce. Though one Aditya I know goes by Deets which I don't like as much as Adi. Another is Ads.

I had a friend whose surname was Bunny. On more than one occasion, he received letters addressed to Mr Rabbit.

I agree that there's always the risk of people mispronouncing names they're less familiar with. The ones that people recognise easily like Dilan etc probably avoid that.
