Hi There, so I have a DS Freddie and struggling to find a boys name but Theodore, would use Theo is really growing on me.

I am concious though that the names are very similar nickname wise though I wouldnt plan on calling the baby Teddy would just use Theo.

Also worried about when they both get older what if they both ended up being called Fred and Ted ! What would you do ? Should I just find a different name ?

I think if he's known as Theo from the off it's unlikely he'll ever end up being called Ted. They're such different names. And so many Theos these days aren't even Theodore so I can't see people questioning it.

DramaAlpaca · 25/01/2022 14:44

It's fine. Don't overthink it.

hivemindneeded · 25/01/2022 14:45

They go really well together. Ted and Fred would be a bit odd, but Theo and Freddie are very different and both lovely names.

halcyondays · 25/01/2022 14:47

It’s fine.

If you happen to have a brother don't mention this to him. Latching on to the hilarity of Ted n Fred would be the type of thing one of my brothers would do!

DuneFan · 25/01/2022 15:13

If you live somewhere that the Th in Theo would be said F then I think they are a bit too similar sorry. Feo and Fred.

But if not then sounds fine to me.

I know a lot of Theos and none of them are known as Ted.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/01/2022 15:37

Even before I opened the thread and realised that Theo could be shortened to Ted. I was saying Feo and Thread in my head.

Oh hey I should go into Poetry 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Cuppaand2biscuits · 25/01/2022 15:40

I know a few Theo's and none are know as Ted or Teddy.
I do think the point of people pronouncing it Feeo instead of Theo is a good one. Feeo and Fred. But if that's not the dialect where you live then go for it.

Violet1988 · 25/01/2022 15:41

Do you need to put Theodore on the birth certificate, if he's just Theo as the official name then he wouldn't end up being a Ted or a Teddy would he?

wingsofabird · 25/01/2022 15:52

Overthinking

Lovely names, great choices

Flutterflybutterby · 26/01/2022 05:58

I couldn't work out the issue until I opened the thread either. I was thinking "Is she worried people will pronounce it Feo? And that she'd have Feo and Freddy?"

EdgeOfACoin · 26/01/2022 07:28

If he's known as Theo, I highly doubt people will start calling him Ted.

Maireas · 26/01/2022 07:35

He'll be Theo. Likely in his class there will be lots of Teddys - he won't use that nickname, it's very popular.
Theodore is nice.

Dragonfly2022 · 26/01/2022 11:47

I know a Theo and Freddie. Theo has never been called Ted/Teddie. I think they sound really good together.

lbm06 · 26/01/2022 14:23

Maybe I should just put Theo on the birth cert then though I do like the name Theodore. My DS is just Freddie on his birth cert as I wasnt fond of the name Frederick !

They’re lovely names together. Theodore will just be Theo. All the Theodores I know go by their full name or Theo and not Ted.

cherrytopcake · 26/01/2022 14:29

Never heard of a Theo being called Ted. If you call him Theo, people will call him Theo.

Glitterygreen · 26/01/2022 15:19

I went to school with a Theo and he was only ever Theo - never Ted or Teddy.

Personally, I don't think people necessarily associate those names unless they are given as a nickname on introduction. Especially at school, I'd never have known Teddy as a nickname for Theo.
