A sister for Gaia

Any suggestions for a name for a little girl who has a big sister called Gaia?

I like Elowen, Juno, Eartha, Freya, Arietta. DP doesn't like any of them!

Terra - Roman form of Gaia.

I love Gaia by the way, was a name I would've picked for my own girls but unfortunately it sounds too much like our surname

How about Celeste?

Changethetoner · 25/01/2022 01:35

Sky or Skye

Thank you so much for the wonderful suggestions, these names are really gorgeous. I wonder if DP would go with Juniper and then I could have the NN Juno Grin

DP is so picky and prefers Gaelic names (we are Scottish). Hates names that remind her of a character or a known person - I had to battle for Gaia! So there are some lovely names that go well but aren't hugely linked to a famous person/character. Thank you!

What about Maris (= of the sea) and used more in Scotland than I think elsewhere? It's Latin, but there is quite a lot of overlap between Latin and Gaelic. (Vir = respected man in Latin, Fear = the same, in Gaelic, etc etc etc) Mara is a sea-related name in Gaelic.

NoSquirrels · 25/01/2022 19:43

Iris - Greek goddess of the rainbow?

Oh my goodness I've never heard Maris but I love this

How about Marsali? It's Gaelic and means Pearl.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 25/01/2022 20:46

Don’t use Maris if your surname is Piper though.

EishetChayil · 25/01/2022 23:18

Juno is gorgeous!

Eartha is Cockney rhyming slang for shit, just to let you know.

Oh I didn't know this! It's probably a bit of an overkill to have one baby called Gaia and one called Eartha anyway Grin

Seeing your update about being Scottish, I'm back to suggest some Scottish island names. What about Iona, Skye, Ailsa or Jura?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/01/2022 23:42

Ooh, missed the part about being Scottish. If I had Scots links I'd struggle to resist Vaila - so pretty and uncommon, yet simple to pronounce and spell.

Ceramide · 26/01/2022 09:18

I feel like I know a million and one Ionas/Skyes/Ailsas but I love Jura and never would have thought of it as a name before! Going on the list.

We are both Scottish and my family are also Welsh and Cornish. DP's family is also Irish. And DP does seem to like Celt based names more than anything else (as well as space based names - she suggested 'Quasar'. I said no!)

Marissa is also a lovely sea-related one
