Same name as pet ..

I have 3 beautiful dd’s
3 pets, all named my fav names that we didn’t use.
Expecting 4th and the only boys name I like I called our cat. Is it cruel to give the baby same name?
Getting mixed reviews, most say it’s fine ..

I'd say no.
Your pet is part of your family too so I wouldn't give the same name.

DropYourSword · 17/01/2022 11:39

I'd be fine if the pet wasn't a current pet. I don't think I'd use an existing pets name for my child.

Buuuut - if it's a name you really like you could still do it. And maybe rename the pet?

Whysolong7 · 17/01/2022 11:41

Lol I’d say it’s fine - just start calling the cat a name that sounds stilly similar to their name but not quite - a Nick name or pet name of the version you’ve been calling them up to now. 😁

Fl0w3ry · 17/01/2022 11:47

I would say no. I understand the idea of just change the cats name instead, but people around you will think you have named your baby after your pet. I think the age of your pet might make a difference though. If it’s a fairly young cat/kitten I think you could get away with switching it’s name without people really noticing it. If it’s an older we’ll-established cat I think it’s not such a good idea.

Shmippy · 17/01/2022 11:48

Er, no. Of course you can't have a cat and a kid with the same name.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/01/2022 11:51

I’d hate to know I’d been named after a cat. I know that’s not what you’re doing but everyone will assume it.

irishfarmer · 17/01/2022 11:57

I would have to say no. I love the name Cara, but we had a dog called that years ago and I know all my family would be like, did she name her DD after the dog?

Also your cat will get confused when you call his name!

Santahasjoinedww · 17/01/2022 11:59

As a teen dd's bff had the same name as her male ddog!! She wasn't at all bothered she said!

NoSquirrels · 17/01/2022 12:01

I think this is a definite no. Cats live for ages! It would be very odd.

Enough4me · 17/01/2022 12:02

If a dog's typical name, Bruiser or Fido, then no the dog keeps the name.

If a regular name, Toby or Freddie, then give the name to the baby and rename the dog.

Enough4me · 17/01/2022 12:03

Sorry cat, but same principle

Violetandpurple · 17/01/2022 12:30

Thanks all the name is Arthur.
Couldn’t really rename the cat athough he gets ‘Arf’ often.
He is middle dds best friend she would never allow us to rename him

It would cause huge confusion for your cat. Renaming a cat isn't as hard as you might think - I've renamed all my rescues. A few sessions with treats, calling the name and feeding the treat, will do the trick. The cat doesn't 'care' what you call him, he only cares that responding to it will benefit him!

BettyfromBristol · 17/01/2022 13:07

It's fine. Realistically, your son will live a lot longer than your cat. It won't matter then but you will still be using the name you like.

Pinto33 · 17/01/2022 13:20

I think it’s too weird, sorry. Surely there’s one other boy name out there that you could like?

It’s fine.

Call the baby Arthur II.

Arthur is a lovely name. And your cat will feel proud.

Dottyteapot · 17/01/2022 13:28

As someone who had this happen to, please don’t! Don’t name him after the cat!

It’s starts funny ‘Arthur Is licking his bum’ whole the rest of the family look at you and giggle and the day is sat there licking, then it goes on to ‘Arthur is getting so fat!’ And again everyone looks at you… honestly it gets tiresome! People think they’re funny and kids will do it all the time.

Please think up a different name for your child or change the cats name completely and don’t let anyone call him Arthur.

Dottyteapot · 17/01/2022 13:30

Above message should read ‘while’ not ‘whole’, although bum hole fits that sentence too Grin

Crunchymum · 17/01/2022 13:46

Rebrand the Cat Arthur II and name the baby Arthur!

Enough4me · 17/01/2022 14:44

Simple, cat becomes Arnie (Arn) and baby becomes Arthur.

I love Chester Jasper and Isaac but OH isn't keen. Like Jude & Maximus too but he also doesn't like those. He loves Reuben and that's his chosen name but I feel it doesn't fit with my Dds names

This has to be a wind up?!

BunnyRuddington · 17/01/2022 19:39

When we were having DS, DH suggested we use the same name as one of the cats. Think my reply was "well, I do love the name, that's why I gave it to the cat but don't you think it shows an extraordinary lack of imagination to give the baby the same name?"

So sorry OP, it was a no from me. Arthur is a lovely name though Smile

Of course you could rename the cat! It's literally the easiest thing to do!
Luredbyapomegranate · 19/01/2022 23:30

It’s fine.

He will outlive the cat by some ways..
