Same Name?

Hello all!
Opinions please....

We have pretty much decided on a name for our baby coming soon however we know someone who's child is named the same. They are about 5 or 6. Not a super close friend and rarely see but still close enough to attend their wedding! Do you think we should let them know prior?

With a friendship at that remove I wouldn’t bother pre warning (are you telling anyone else the name of your baby before s/he is born?). Just a note / photo after birth to say: hope your Arthur is ready for a mini-me! Meet our own lovely Arthur born yesterday etc etc. We’ve always loved the name. Hope you’re well x

I can't see it being a problem.

Is the name super rare?

wishing3 · 11/01/2022 17:36

I think it’s fine in either case, but if v rare maybe let them know.

Oh definitely not, we have cousins in our family with the same first name different surnames and never been an issue. Congratulations

SummaLuvin · 11/01/2022 18:01

Yeah, don't pre-warn - they might see this as being given an opportunity to object, if they do so and you go ahead then there might be bad feeling as they feel ignored. Let them know once baby has been born and named, then they can't complain.

As it's an acquaintance with a fairly common name there shouldn't be any issue anyway.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 11/01/2022 18:18

My cousin asked if he could use our sons name if he had a boy, I was flattered. I see him much more often than it sounds like you see these friends.
It’s a compliment if anything.

I like the text idea from @Popskipiekin

You don’t need their permission but a little nod of acknowledgment is fine.

toastofthetown · 11/01/2022 18:54

I wouldn't warn them either, as that feels like you are inviting opinion. The most I would do is if someone announced a birth with a name on my shortlist make a comment that it was a name I loved also.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/01/2022 22:34

No. No one owns a name.
