My partner is Italian. Moved here 6 years ago. He says Enzo is a stand alone name in Italy, however some people also use it as a nickname for names like Lorenzo (Renzo too) or Vincenzo x

It's definitely Vincenzo not Lorenzo.
Lorenzo is usually shortened to Lore.
It could be Lorenzo at a push.
Unusual to find a Vincenzo or Lorenzo at any age under 40 who's not been named after Grandad. I've been teaching for 27 years and have had only one Vincenzo and about 3 Lorenzos.

Lorenzo is abbreviated Lore/Lory and Vincenzo these days is Vinci (although I only know one, but lots of Lorenzos as there was a surge here a few years back - all are in their late teens and twenties).

Maybe it’s more of a thing in the south, where there is a tradition of naming after grandparents, but you’d probably find that Grandpa Vincenzo is known as Enzo but grandson Vincenzo gets called Vinci at school.

No, I'm in Puglia and it's definitely not a thing here. (well, the grandparents thing is obviously but in itself there are still very few of either name) I remember the upsurge in Lorenzo popularity a decade or so back, but it was, as you say, pretty short lived.

I know a half Italian half English Enzo short for Vincenzo. With Italian surname. I definitely think it's absolutely fine in UK if there is italian heritage, it fits with the O ending trend.

One of my pets names. It’s fine - I think it will feel dated in England in years to come because of it being part of the short vowelly / names with O sound trend as other people have mentioned - Otis, Ezra, Arlo, Hugo, Milo etc.

I always thought it was Italian for Henry. Not keen on it personally. Sounds like a product not a person.

Since your partner is Italian, I think Enzo or Lorenzo is lovely. I also like Leandro (could be nicknamed to Leo) and Matteo.
