When I was little I always planned to call a future daughter Rosalind, Posie for short. Thoughts?

Prefer Rosalie

PlainJane1000 · 06/01/2022 15:19

Rosalind is lovely. I would not want to he known as Posie, but as private family nns anything goes I guess. Outside of the family circle not sure Posie will serve her well. Rosalind has a number of alternative nn options and is a beautiful full name for her to grow with.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/01/2022 16:21

Too twee for me. Would only suit the very delicate and ditzy. Would be hard being a strapping rugby playing 30-something called Posie.

Comedycook · 06/01/2022 16:23

Can't stand Rosalind...so frumpy.

Posie is cute for a baby but would sound silly on a grown woman

Justkeeppedaling · 06/01/2022 16:33

I've loved the name Posy since I read Ballet Shoes as a child. I wanted three daughters so I could call them Pauline, Petra and Posy.

I don't like Posie though.

And if your surname is Fossil I'd avoid.

JustWonderingIfYou · 06/01/2022 16:33

Looks a bit drag queen esque. A bit to girlie for a grown woman.

Kite22 · 06/01/2022 16:44

Another who doesn't see how Posie comes from Rosalind.
I mean, you can call your dc whatever you want behind closed doors - in my experience nick names tend to evolve from a situation or a habit or a mispronunciation of something - but I don't think she would thank you for calling her Posie out in front of people.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/01/2022 16:48

I think you'd have to introduce her as Posy very early on, as the standard nn for Rosalind seems to be "Roz" - or at least it is for the few I've met. It's the only thing that puts me off the lovely Rosalind as Roz seems such a harsh sounding nn, compared the Shakespearean elegance of the full name imo.

For me Posy seems a bit more of a natural/intuitive nn for Josephine? Although I understand it could be used for floral names too.

Alicatz66 · 06/01/2022 16:49

Very nice Smile

KurtWilde · 06/01/2022 16:55

To me the Rosalind would get Roz for short, which I can't stand. Shame because Rosalind is a pretty name. Not sure how you're getting Posie from it though.

DixieSun · 06/01/2022 17:01

I looked quick and thought it said Postie. I thought you can't call a baby that Grin

Rhythmisadancer · 06/01/2022 17:02

Rosalind is a lovely name, and passes my "what if she wants to be prime minister?" test
and cutesy twee family nn s are perfectly acceptable too - she will form her own view as to whether she wants to stick with it for a wider audience as she gets older, and it will be cute when she is little - go for it!

PattyPan · 06/01/2022 21:34

I love Rosalind, but really don't like Posie. If you want a Ballet Shoes name then it's got to be Petrova! Grin

WeasilyPleased · 06/01/2022 22:13

I cannot believe no one has mentioned Bob Mortimer and Taskmaster yet!

Crankley · 07/01/2022 17:35

Posie is really Twee. As an adult woman would you honestly want your name to be Posie?

Clarissa76 · 07/01/2022 18:04

As an adult woman would you honestly want your name to be Posie?

Yes Grin but I appreciate that may be because I started liking the name when I was about seven.

furbabymama87 · 07/01/2022 18:06

I like it but prefer it spelled Posy

becca3210 · 07/01/2022 18:10

Too cutesy doesn't work as an adult in my opinion. Prefer Rosie

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2022 19:17

I like Rosalind, and Posy is sweet as a little girl’s nn, can’t see why you’d spell it Posie though?

Please ignore the lunatics suggesting you use Posy as a full name.

Blubells · 08/01/2022 19:40

Rosalind would shorten to Rosie, surely?

underneaththeash · 08/01/2022 19:42

I love Posie - unfortunately it now makes me think of some bloke pretending to be a woman.

Joolsin · 08/01/2022 19:44

I like both.

TinaYouFatLard · 08/01/2022 19:48

I love Posie but as a nickname for Josephine.
